BREAKING: Security operatives arrest ammunition supplier linked to bandits

PRESS RELEASE FCT POLICE FOIL KIDNAPPING ATTEMPT IN BYAZHIN, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE AND AMMUNITION On Thursday, June 5, 2026, at approximately 12:34 a.m., operatives of the FCT Police Command attached to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on intelligence reports indicating the presence of suspected kidnappers around the Redeemed Church area of Byazhin, near Paze Hills, swiftly mobilized to the location in a coordinated response led by the Officer Commanding (OC), Anti-Kidnapping Unit. Upon arrival, the operatives discovered that the armed suspects were attempting to forcefully gain entry into a house with the intention of abducting the occupants. Upon sighting the police team, the suspects opened fire, prompting a decisive response from the police team. A fierce gun battle ensued for over thirty minutes, during which the police operatives successfully repelled the attackers and foiled the kidnapping attempt. The suspects fled into the surrounding bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. Exhibits recovered from the scene include: • One (1) AK-47 rifle; • One (1) AK-47 magazine; and • Seven (7) rounds of live ammunition. The intended victim, identified as Mr. Samson and his wife, were rescued unharmed and evacuated to safety. They were subsequently taken to General Hospital, Gwarinpa, where they received medical attention for trauma-related distress before being placed under protective custody. The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, fcai., commends the bravery and professionalism of the operatives involved in the operation and reassures residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory. He also ordered enhanced surveillance patrols within the area to forestall any further criminal activities. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to aid security agencies in anti-crime operations. PRESS RELEASE CP FCT MEETS WITH THE SEVENTEEN (17) DPOs UNDER METRO AREA COMMAND. …as he issues them two weeks to end all robbery activities within the city centre. On Friday, 19th June 2026, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD., FCAI, held a meeting with the seventeen (17) Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) under Metro Area Command to review the prevailing security situation and strengthen operational strategies aimed at addressing emerging security threats within the Area Command. Having observed the peculiar security challenges across the various Area Commands and their attendant security concerns, the Commissioner of Police expressed concern over 1. Traffic robbery 2. Incidents of vehicle snatching at gunpoint, 3. ⁠One chance “robbery” menace 4. ⁠Motorists driving “one way” 5. Activities of commercial motorcyclists operating on major roads. 6. ⁠Vandalization of public and private property. 7. ⁠Motorists parking on highways. 8. ⁠Traffic congestions He therefore ordered the DPOs to end these crimes within two weeks or face the consequences. He also directed all DPOs and Area Commander Metro to focus on the city centre as he will personally be handling security challenges in the suburb. The CP stressed that he will not condone negligence, directing the Area Commander Metro who is the supervising officer to provide effective leadership and ensure strict compliance with the directives.
