I appreciate the humor, but going off on a bit of a tangent, this video is a great demonstration of exactly how 99% of people out there use hand sanitizer. I even see similar usage most of the time from folks in the CC community. Daily reminder not to do that. Spending 5 seconds rubbing in a tiny amount like this accomplishes absolutely nothing.
With a 70% ethanol product, you need to be using a large enough amount to have AT LEAST 15-20 seconds of wet contact time to allow it to inactivate viruses. If you can get it closer to 30 seconds, that’s even better.
It takes even longer with a product below 70%, so I wouldn’t use those. And products higher than 70% evaporate too quickly to make the contact time feasible, especially if they’re not gel-based, so I wouldn’t recommend those either. The combination of being gel-based and 70% ethanol is what most of the industry has arrived at specifically to facilitate a contact time that makes it effective, but you can still find a bunch of garbage products out there that aren’t either of those things.
