Response to VP Kashim Shettima from Abdul-Aziz Na'ibi Abubakar
Your Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima, I have followed with keen interest your recent remarks and past statements regarding my leader, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (Waziri of Adamawa), including the light-hearted vow to throw more “political jabs” at him ahead of 2027, as well as earlier criticisms suggesting that his eight years as Vice President left little notable impact or pride for many Northerners.
With the greatest respect, sir, politics may involve sharp exchanges, but facts and history must not be overshadowed by campaign rhetoric. Atiku Abubakar has made tangible, verifiable contributions to Arewa, across the Northeast, Northwest, and North Central, that continue to benefit our people long after his time in office. Allow me to respectfully set the record straight with concrete examples.
- Infrastructure Facilitation for the North
As Vice President (1999–2007), Atiku attracted and supported critical federal projects, particularly in his home region and beyond:
1- Upgrade of Yola Airport to international status.
2- Establishment of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yola.
3- Electricity transmission infrastructure linking Gombe through Adamawa to Jalingo.
4- Numerous road projects in Adamawa (Yola–Mubi, Ganye axis, bridges, etc.).
5- During that administration, the Federal Government committed substantial resources, over ₦83 billion at the time, to projects across the Northwest zone, reflecting the collective push for Northern development under a government where a Northerner held the second-highest office.
6 - During Atiku’s time, asphalt roads were constructed from Yola to Mubi.
7- During Atiku’s time, roads were tarred from Jabbi-Lamba to Malabu and Belel.
8- During Atiku’s time, roads were tarred from Ganye to Toungo up to Jamtari.
9- During Atiku’s time, roads were tarred from Jada to Kojoli.
10- During Atiku’s time, bridges were constructed along the Mayo-Belwa, Jada and Ganye road axis.
11- During Atiku’s time, the Federal Technical College Watu in Michika LGA was established.
12- During Atiku’s time, underground petroleum pipelines were laid from Port Harcourt to the NNPC Depot in Yola, Adamawa State.
13- Atiku brought the CGC water project to his hometown, Jada.
14- Atiku launched the affordable health insurance scheme (NHIS) in Jada and in Yola.
15- Atiku was the first to bring GSM mobile communication to Adamawa State.
Security:
- In 2014, during the peak of the Boko Haram crisis, Atiku spent almost one billion naira of his own money to establish the Civilian JTF, who were familiar with Boko Haram tactics and assisted security forces in fighting terrorism.
- Education and Human Capital Revolution
Atiku’s most transformative legacy is in education:
1- Atiku built four primary schools in his hometown, Jada.
2- Atiku built the Government Science Secondary School in his hometown, Jada.
3- Atiku established a scholarship foundation for the less privileged in Jada, and every year he selects indigent students from every LGA in Adamawa State and sponsors them to university for free.
4- He single-handedly founded the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola in 2005, a world-class institution that has become a beacon of excellence in the Northeast, producing graduates with global-standard skills while creating hundreds of jobs through its academy, facilities, and support services.
5- He financed the Northern Education Programme (NEP) at Arewa House, which organized education summits that held Northern governors accountable, leading to doubled enrolments and improved teacher quality across multiple Arewa states.
6- He has awarded countless scholarships to indigent students from Adamawa and beyond, including support for victims of the Chibok abduction.
- Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation:
According to the Nigerian constitution, the Vice President handles the economic affairs of the nation...

How HE Atiku Abubakar Healed and Repositioned the North.
In response to the mute and hearing-impaired current Vice President, whose sole role as VP was delivering speeches and extolling the virtues of his unsuccessful dictatorial superior from one podium to another.
Upon Atiku rise as the top political figure in the North, there were murmurs of discontent, particularly regarding some of the personnel changes he implemented.
He chose to convene a diverse group of stakeholders from the North at a significant and unprecedented event in Kaduna, named 'Reception 2000'.
During this event, he engaged with various representatives from the North, including religious scholars, academics, business leaders, women, and youth.
The engagement was vigorous and free from restrictions and formalities, which resulted in the North being informed and involved in ways that had never been seen before.
This marked the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at re-positioning the North, particularly focusing on revitalizing its industries and generating employment opportunities.

PRESS STATEMENT
FACE OF AFRICA 2026: GOV. LAWAL WINS GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR AWARD IN LONDON
Governor Dauda Lawal has been honoured with the Outstanding Governor of the Year award by Triangle Media International Magazine.
The International Magazine's 10th annual lecture and award was held on Thursday at the Grand Hall of King's College, London, United Kingdom.
A statement by the governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, noted that the awards honoured public and private sector leaders whose leadership impacts governance and service delivery.
He added that the lecture, themed "Harnessing the roles of Nigerians in Diaspora for National Development," brought together stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.
The statement read in parts, "Yesterday, in London, the United Kingdom, Governor Dauda Lawal received the 2026 Face of Africa Leadership Award for Outstanding Governor of the Year.
"The 2026 edition coincides with the 10th anniversary of Triangle International Magazine, which has, over the years, celebrated notable Africans across diverse fields.
"The award recognises the Zamfara state government, under Governor Lawal's leadership, for achieving a remarkable milestone in service delivery since his inauguration on 29 May 2023.
"The board of the Triangle International, among other reasons, said that despite inheriting an empty treasury, Governor Dauda Lawal has remained true to the Rescue agenda's campaign promise: to rescue and rebuild Zamfara.
"The award also reflects the state government's innovative approach to indirectly curbing insecurity through educational advancement, demonstrated by the declaration of a state of emergency in the educational sector.
"The state government's swift payment of outstanding N3.4 billion for WAEC and NECO, and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools across all 14 Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
"The International magazine finds these initiatives to be strategic interventions toward long-term efforts to make Zamfara State better."
The colourful event was attended by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and Sahara Group's GMD, Kola Adesina, among others.
