DHS SHUTDOWN OFFER. @NewsHour has obtained this letter from the WH to Senators outlining their offer for ending the shutdown. Read here. But basic points: - Expand use, oversight of body cameras - Limit immigration enforcement at schools, churches, sensitive locations (voluntary) - Enforce use of visible ID for DHS law enforcement. Officers must state their agency and identification when asked. - Will not deport US citizens, as per the law and will codify that US citizens should not be detained except if a law is violated. @MichaelKarlis It was/is so obvious that this would happen, poor people have no leverage. I’m a Mississippi native and even they didn’t fall for this, they had sense enough to vote the voucher system down.

The average private school tuition in SA is around $12,000. But, with $ 10,000 vouchers, some experts said low-income folks might be unable to afford to enroll in Texas' voucher program -- a slap in the face to supports who said it would save kids from failing public schools.

#OTD in 1858, John W. "Bud" Fowler was born in Fort Plain, NY. A true pioneer, he was one of the first African American professional ballplayers, both in totality and to play on an integrated team in the 19th century. Here's a color study of him with the Findlay Sluggers in 1894.
