On Friday, last week, the Chamber hosted its end of year event at Muthaiga Country Club in Nairobi from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm EAT. Among issues discussed are the recent increase of bilateral trade figures between 🇰🇪Kenya and the 🇬🇧UK which stands at £1.7 billion, a significant increase from £1.4 billion earlier in the year. This significant increase in trade between our two nations can be attributed to the chamber's commitment to key developments, from driving exports to fostering innovation and creating jobs. Consequently, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Investment Promotion, Mr. Abubakar Hassan Abubakar, emphasized that Kenya is positioning itself as the entry hub and gateway to Africa to capture a significant share of the 2.5% of UK outward FDI to Africa and enhance bilateral trade with the UK. The PS confirmed that Kenya already benefits from a bilateral investment treaty with the UK, a double taxation agreement with the UK, an Economic Partnership Agreement with the UK and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry and the British Chamber of Commerce Kenya all aimed at addressing challenges facing businesses in the country. The British High Commissioner also reiterated on the British government's dedication in helping British companies make mutually beneficial investments in Kenya. He also emphasized on the UK's commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment in Kenya through addressing regulatory hurdles, improve infrastructure and promote good governance by collaborating closely with the Kenyan government, private sector and like-minded partners such as the US and EU. Overall, this event not only provided an exclusive platform for members to network but also served as a forum to reflect on the key milestones achieved over the past year by the Chamber in collaboration with its close partners, the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, and the British High Commission in Kenya. #EndofYearEvent #Trade #UK #Kenya
