Smith and Hopkins are the M’s 12th and 22nd rated prospects, respectively. They were playing A ball. It doesn’t sound like much of a return but it will take a few years to determine that. For now, these players won’t be helping the Rays at the Major League level.

How about eliminate the automatic bid for conference tournament champions?

This is not sour grapes because I said this last summer when we weren’t a regular season conference champion that had won 22 of last 24 games in a good conference: 1) the NET needs to be tweaked and 2) the NCAA tournament should be expanded to at least 80 teams. There are now 362 D1 basketball teams (compared to 282 teams when current bracket was adopted) and the event would still be one of the most challenging postseasons to reach in sports at 22%. I wouldn’t even be opposed to the NCAA tournament absorbing the NIT completely and going to 90+ teams with no other postseason tournament. I think all of the teams in this year’s NCAA field are deserving. But I also think there are a handful of other deserving teams and @USFMBB is one of them. So, in summary, let’s find a way to improve the NET and let’s adapt to a reasonable increase in field size for the NCAA tournament. 🤘🏀

Today I join the many hard-working colleagues who have been laid off.
Heartbreaking-but 27 years at ESPN was a good run.
So grateful for a 38 yr career!
Longevity for a woman in this business is something I’m especially proud of.
