Bobby Unser broke the existing track record in qualifying by nearly 18 mph for the 1972 #Indy500…. Someone would have to go 253 mph or so to equal that today… Mind boggling and utterly crazy!

@jakequery Buddy was injured in 2005 practice. Kenny Brack jumped in his Rahal Letterman car and set the fastest qualifying time the next weekend. But KB had to start 23rd. In the race he went from 23rd to seventh in the first 35 laps. But a steering pin came loose. Oh well!

A Doug Moe story, told years ago by the great Larry Brown: Larry was a terrific guard. He was on the '64 Olympic team after starring at North Carolina, with Moe, for Dean Smith. But he was thought too small for the NBA, and went back to UNC to work for Smith as an assistant.

@Thomsen419 Bill was the Cowboys announcer in the 1960s too with Don Meredith, Bob Hayes, Bob Lilly and Mel Renfro.

I got to interview him a few years ago while doing a documentary on the Kennedy assassination since he spoke to Oswald at one of the media scrums. At the end of the interview I asked if he would indulge the WCCW fan in me with a few questions about Gentleman Chris Adams, he did.
