Newkirk: People are not recognizing what it takes to move the needle. You have to have access to the leadership. You have to have the resources. You have to have the transparent metrics. You have to be able to see where you need to put your energies. #TCAcFest

Newkirk: DEI work is sort of marginalized. It's not seen as something at the heart of HR. I found DEI professionals are the most marginalized people in the structure of most institutions. No matter how big title, salary [sic] DEI isn't considered part of HR structure. #TCAcFest

Newkirk: bias metastasizes in a system. And so you can undo that systematically. You can dismantle systemic bias, but it takes that kind of intention. #TCAcFest

Newkirk: "diversity" stretched to mean so much it almost means nothing. I focus on racial diversity because I think it's been eclipsed by the many other categories that diversity encompasses. Those things not only eclipsed race but it seems as if they don't include race #TCAcFest
