On Monday, more than 700 students crossed the stage as graduates of Tuscaloosa City Schools — and for more than 40 of those graduates, the moment was even more special because their parents are part of the TCS family, too. ❤️🎓 From classrooms to cafeterias, buses to central office, our employees pour into TCS every day. This week, we celebrated not only their work, but also the incredible accomplishments of their children. Congratulations to the Class of 2026 and to the TCS families celebrating this milestone together!

This week 56 teachers were accepted to next year's cohort of @NBPTS candidates. While TCS has provided robust supports for this "gold standard" of professional learning processes for more than 10 years, this is the largest group to begin the process in one year. Combined with the teachers who are already candidates, 99 educators will be candidates in the Fall of 2026. 25 of those candidates also received the news this week that they have received the full scholarship the state provides each year. TCS had 25 educators receive full scholarships from ALSDE that will allow them to pursue National Board certification with no out-of-pocket cost. Laura Bailey, @tcsverner Tra'Nijah Braxton-Lewis, @TASPA_TCS Crystal Brown-Boateng, @UPES_Leads Phaedra Clausell, @TASPA_TCS Victoria Evans, @UPES_Leads Abigail Gleason, @WoodlandForrest Brittany Grayson, @GoCHSFalcons Keilani Hamilton Randolph, @GoCHSFalcons Erin Heck, @nhs_jaguars Ashlee Hester, @UPES_Leads John Hubbert, @emsstampede Ashley Jackson, @oakdaleelement Pamela Jones, @oakdaleelement Romekia Jones, @WestlawnTCS Destiny Langford, @TCTATuscaloosa Crystal Lassiter, @GoCHSFalcons Brian McCoy, @emsstampede Lori McGill, @oakdaleelement Travis Moore, @GoCHSFalcons Christie Ozment, @TMSElementary LaKeisha Ray, @TASPA_TCS Macy Sanford, @NMSJags Latrina Spencer, @oakdaleelement Rachel White, @UPES_Leads Mary Beth Williams, @NMSJags This investment not only supports professional growth for our teachers, but also directly benefits students by ensuring they continue to receive high-quality instruction from highly skilled and dedicated educators. Students from @WestlawnTCS explored the future of transportation and technology during a hands-on STEM learning experience hosted by Vela Institute’s @betaboxlearning Autonomous Vehicles Onsite Field Trip on May 7. Throughout the day, sixth - and seventh-grade students participated in interactive lessons focused on autonomous vehicles, coding, drones and robotics. Betabox guides led students through real-world scenarios designed to spark conversations about the laws, ethics and technology surrounding self-driving vehicles. “We have mobile labs that we travel around in different schools and offer onsite field trips for students to present different types of STEM technologies,” said Gretchen Bowers, technology manager for @betaboxlearning. “Today, we’re working with autonomous vehicles, so they’re learning a little bit about robot cars and some basic networking and drones about building different types of algorithms to get those to fly.” Students worked directly with robot cars while learning about coding, networking and IP addresses. They also programmed drones to follow flight plans using algorithms they created themselves. “We talk about just some basic command lines to get those fully connected,” Bowers said. “Then we have the drones over here also that they’ll actually build algorithms to get those to follow the flight plan.” The experience was designed not only to teach students about emerging technology, but also to inspire interest in STEM-related careers. “STEM is the thing right now,” Bowers said. “We just need to make sure that we’re preparing our students so that they’ll be on top of the game rather than behind the curtain. Just making sure they’re prepared and ready for whatever career field they’re wanting to go into.” Students also explored how drones and autonomous technology are already being used in everyday life and discussed how advancements in technology could shape future career opportunities. Betabox partners with the @univwestalabama to bring mobile STEM learning labs to schools across the region. The group previously visited @NMSJags in the fall and @emsstampede earlier last week. @MikeDaria @tidecam @drdarlene08 @TcsIvory @iamshanda @MrSummerford @ESPNupe @gtidwell1 @JayDuke49456304 @MarvinLLucas @GRANTE1 @bamaEMW @UASTEMCREATEMBA @STEMeduWorks @GilesVertis #STEMEducation #FutureReady #HandsOnLearning #AutonomousVehicles #Robotics #Coding #DroneTechnology #STEMinAction #StudentInnovation #CareerReady #TechnologyEducation #WestlawnTCS #TCSStrong #AmazingToTheCore #FutureOfLearning #NextGenLeaders

Congratulations to Northridge Middle School on being named a 2026 National Gold Star School by the National Association of Elementary School Principals! NMS is one of only two schools in Alabama to receive this honor — and the only middle school in the state recognized this year. The school was selected as one of just 57 schools nationwide from more than 220 applicants. This recognition highlights the incredible work happening every day at Northridge Middle to create a culture of excellence, support student success, and build strong relationships among students, staff and families. We are proud of Dr. Jami Rainey, the teachers, staff, students and the entire NMS community for this outstanding achievement! To read more: tinyurl.com/32mzv48p @NMSJags @northridgemspta
