Changing the Narrative at Eastwood Middle 💙 At @emsstampede, something special is happening. Through their House Games, students are building more than just friendly competition—they’re building teamwork, positivity, and a strong sense of community. These games bring students together across grade levels to encourage one another, celebrate good citizenship, and show what it means to represent their house with pride. Students are placed into one of four Houses — Shujaa, Akili, Tuska, or Imara — and proudly represent their teams throughout the school year. These Swahili names reflect the school’s core values: Justice, Critical Thinking, Integrity, and Resilience. The focus isn’t just on winning—it’s on supporting one another, demonstrating positive behavior, and creating a school culture where students feel connected and encouraged. It's helped lower absenteeism rates, improve student behavior and grades. Moments like these are helping shape the story of Eastwood Middle every day. Seniors recently had the opportunity to explore exciting career pathways during Skilled Trades of West Alabama Day at the @TCTATuscaloosa (TCTA). The event connected students with industry professionals and provided hands-on insight into high-demand skilled trades such as electrical work, plumbing, building construction, and HVAC. Throughout the day, students learned about real-world job skills, career opportunities, and training programs that can lead directly to the workforce. The event also highlighted a 4-week summer training program designed to help students continue developing practical skills and explore future career possibilities. Dr. Preeti Nichani, principal of Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools-Elementary, received a surprise Tuesday she will never forget. When she walked into the school gym, hundreds of cheering students, colleagues and district leaders were waiting to celebrate her being named a National Distinguished Principal — one of the most prestigious honors for elementary school leaders in the United States. 📚✨ Page Turner, the Tuscaloosa Reads Bus, rolled through Tuscaloosa City Schools during Read Across America Week! Students at @UPES_Leads were all smiles as they stepped aboard and picked out a brand-new book to take home. 🚍❤️📖 Led by literacy leader Carrie Jones, the experience helped spark a love of reading and connect students with the joy of books. The Tuscaloosa Reads program is supported through the federal Innovative Approaches to Literacy Grant, helping place high-quality books directly into students’ hands. TCS Superintendent Mike Daria joined Tuscaloosa County Superintendent Daniel Bray this week for Future Focus, an event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama highlighting the connection between education and workforce development. The panel discussed findings from the Chamber’s Education Excellence Commission, which spent more than 1,000 hours studying issues affecting local schools, including student achievement, absenteeism, facilities and funding. The report outlines recommendations and next steps to help strengthen education in our community. Three Eastwood Middle School students recently got the chance to take to the skies after earning a special honor at the @UofAlabama STEM Showcase. Evelin Lopez, Rosa Lopez and Guadalupe Ramirez won the Sanders Flight Training Center Discovery Flight Award in the physical sciences category, which included a discovery flight with Sanders Aviation at Tuscaloosa National Airport. For all three students, it was their first time flying. Parker Evans, a senior at @GoCHSFalcons, is soaring toward an extraordinary future! ✈️ On March 2, Parker was celebrated for his selection into the Fall 2026 class of Tuskegee University’s Aviation Science Program — one of the most competitive aviation pathways in the nation. Chosen as one of just 25 students from more than 400 applicants nationwide, Parker will join a new generation carrying forward the legacy of the historic Tuskegee Airmen. During the ceremony, @TuskegeeUniv representatives announced that Parker also received a University Achievement Scholarship valued at approximately $50,000 over four years.
