Thomas Consulting attended an emergency inspection for Lancaster City Council following a wall collapse at the “Egg Cup” building, Wood St, Lancaster (24 March 2026). Part of a stone wall fell into a car park after heavy rain—no injuries or damage reported.

Last week, Directors Mike Hooper and Phil Howden attended the 45th IStructE NW Regional Group Past Chairs’ Dinner on March 20th. This annual event gathers past Chairs, including past Presidents Brian Clancy and Jane Entwistle.

Last Monday, Civil Director Julian Pearson visited Cumbria for BRE365 infiltration testing to evaluate ground conditions. This ensures drainage designs are compliant and tailored, highlighting our commitment to sustainability. For more on infiltration testing, check the carousel.

Since then, he has made significant progress with Targeted Training Therapy. In his last session, he successfully transitioned from lying to sitting. With increased trunk strength, the training team lowered his standing frame support by two holes, which he managed well.

Our Shrewsbury office has been supporting The Movement Centre Charity and following Iilo Kirk's journey. Iilo has Cerebral Palsy, GDD, and CVI. Last year, we funded his new standing frame, and our Head of HR, Diane Brown, visited to see him using it for the first time.

Acting for Lancaster City Council Building Control, Thomas Consulting advised securing the building with propping and shoring. This was completed over the weekend, and after our inspection, we informed the Authorities that the One-Way system could be reopened.

Yesterday, Phil Howden, a Director at Thomas Consulting, visited 28 Thurnham Street following an emergency structural inspection. Earlier this month, part of the gable wall collapsed, partially closing Lancaster's city centre One-Way System for safety.

The speakers offer insights to help candidates prepare for the PRI and Chartered Membership exam, focusing on the application process, pitfalls, and advice from experienced Engineers. We are proud to support future Chartered Engineers and assist candidates in their journey.
