Yesterday’s victims were once survivors.
Today’s victims were yesterday’s survivors.
And painfully, tomorrow’s victims may be those who made it through today.
My heart is heavy.
How many more lives must be lost before we can finally say enough is enough?
How many more innocent people must die before these killings stop?
People woke up with hope.
They bathed, dressed up, and stepped out to celebrate Palm Sunday in peace.
They had plans, dreams, families…
Only to be brutally cut down in the night by those who have no regard for human life.
This is not just news.
These are human beings.
These are fathers, mothers, children, all gone.
And yet, the silence is deafening.
No words. No comfort. No urgency from those entrusted with protecting lives.
As a citizen, I am heartbroken.
As a human being, I am tired.
We cannot keep normalizing grief.
We cannot keep counting bodies like numbers.
Nigeria deserves better.
Nigerians deserve to live.
