Our CEO Krista Carr was a guest on Global News Radio in Toronto last week for an engaging discussion with host Brad Smith on assisted suicide in Canada. They discussed Krista’s appearance before the interparliamentary committee presently considering expanding medical assistance in dying (MAiD) for people whose sole medical condition is a mental illness. The host shared his own previous battles with mental health issues and conceded that most Canadians don’t realize there are two different entry points for MAiD. Krista shared details of how Track 2 MAiD lacks guardrails and discriminates against people with disabilities. She also shared examples of the inquiries Inclusion Canada receives from people who are being offered assisted death despite wanting the supports they need to live a good life. People don’t want to give up hope and we shouldn’t give up on people. Note: The segment begins at 24:33 open.spotify.com/episode/3aKgEP…

Inclusion Canada CEO Krista Carr was a witness last night at the Joint Parliamentary Committee studying Canada's Medical Assistance in Dying regime. The group of 10 MPs and five Senators is considering whether to expand Canada's assisted suicide law even further - to include people whose sole medical condition is mental illness. Carr urged the committee not to widen the law and in fact repeal the second stream of MAiD. It was added in 2021 and discriminates against people with disabilities. Carr explains how in this statement. Between 2021 and 2024, 2,050 people have died from Track 2 assisted suicide in Canada. #cdnpoli #MAID

Krista Carr says Inclusion Canada gets weekly calls from people with disabilities who either lack needed supports or report being offered assisted suicide instead of routine care. "From a bruised hip... to accessing treatment for pneumonia... none... wanted to die," she said.

@HabsOnReddit My husband and I were at the game, my first NHL game, a huge deal, but I still remember the overwhelming feeling of the fans, sending their joy to Koivu when we stepped on the ice. Incredible Lifetime memory

On this day in 2002, Saku Koivu made his emotional return to the Habs lineup after his courageous battle with cancer. The Habs actually cliched the playoffs that night and would go on to upset the #1 seeded Boston Bruins in the first round.

Commentary by our CEO Krista Carr: Building a strong Canada must include persons with disabilities. They deserve hope and possibility and shouldn't be left behind. This piece discusses why and how the Canada Disability Benefit (CBD) must increase given the rising cost of living. From the increasing price of food, housing, electricity to medication, people with disabilities need better supports. Introduced last year, the Canada Disability Benefit provides up to $6.66 a day. That doesn't go very far and too few people actually receive it. There are nearly 9 million people in Canada with at least one disability and only 600,000 individuals get the CDB. Please read and share and contact your Member of Parliament. rdnewsnow.com/2026/04/06/o... #cdnpoli

Carr was asked about the Alberta's Bill 18 introduced earlier this week that gives greater protections for disabled individuals. Yesterday, March 3 was World Wildlife Day. Our current placement student, Prisha, wrote a blog post on this topic: the various ways in which people with an intellectual disability are disproportionately impacted by environmental changes, why protecting wildlife actually supports people with an intellectual disability and their families, and why nature matters for mental health. Read it here! inclusioncanada.ca/post/world-wil…

In Canada, it is Kindness Week, a national moment to encourage empathy, compassion, and positive action toward others. It often highlights everyday acts—checking in on neighbours, lending a hand, showing understanding. From an Inclusion Canada perspective, this week is also a chance to deepen the conversation: - The most lasting form of kindness is creating conditions where people don’t have to ask to belong. - Kindness should not replace rights - Compassion should not excuse inadequate systems - Good intentions must be paired with structural inclusion Real kindness means building communities where everyone belongs. Let’s choose inclusion. 💜 #KindnessWeek

CTV news today: “A recent report by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has asked Ottawa to repeal medical assistance in dying (MAID) for anyone without a terminal illness, also known as “Track 2” in Canada’s MAID program.” “Somebody else who wants to die, we offer them suicide prevention, we offer them supports,” Isabel Grant told CTV on Friday. “We don’t offer them death.”It’s a choice people with disabilities make often due to facing social and economic inequalities, and Canadian government’s failure to provide support, according to Grant. “People with disabilities who are suffering are being offered death, as opposed to what they might need to alleviate their suffering,” she said. @igrantubc #EndTrack2MAiD ctvnews.ca/health/article…
