TEPCO’s Fifth Comprehensive Special Business Plan sets out actions to reduce time to power as electricity demand rises, particularly from data centers. Measures include Welcome Zones, earlier grid connections, and construction capacity partnerships to reduce connection lead times where feasible, aiming for a world‑class data center demand growth rate in the Tokyo metropolitan area by FY2040. Alongside this, the business plan advances grid modernization through next generation operations, optimization of distributed energy resources, and regional management to sustain stable and economical supply. Power supply is anchored in a balanced mix of renewables, grid‑scale storage, diversified procurement, and nuclear, targeting delivery of over 60% of delivered electricity from decarbonized sources by FY2040 and pursue net‑zero energy‑supply CO₂ by 2050. #DataCenter #Grid #Decarbonization #EnergyTransition

[This way to Oze! Vol.67: Ayame-daira Waiting for Spring] In Oze, heavy snow usually falls day after day during the harsh winter season, with snow depths reaching up to four meters in some areas. This year, however, snowfall was limited to about two meters—roughly half of the usual amount. As March began and the weather settled, we took the opportunity to visit Ayame-daira to see how it was faring, and we would like to share what we found. Departing from the Snow Park Oze Tokura, a walk of about two hours brings you to a marshland known as Tashiroppara. As there is no trail leading to Tashiroppara, the area is inaccessible during the summer season and it is possible to walk across it only when snow covers the landscape. Beyond Tashiroppara, looking down the slope, you can observe a phenomenon reminiscent of the Dragon Eye. The Dragon Eye is a phenomenon that occurs only during the snowmelt season, when ice and meltwater create the appearance of a blue pupil resembling a dragon’s eye. This striking sight became widely known at Hachimantai, which straddles the border between Akita and Iwate prefectures. After walking for another two hours, a large snow cornice jutting out from Ayame-daira on the summit area toward the slope comes into view. Snow cornices can collapse and trigger avalanches, so extreme caution is required. Continuing on via Fujimi Pass and walking for about another hour, you arrive at the marshland of Ayame-daira. The sight of Mount Shibutsu and Mount Hiuchi, rising majestically beyond frost-covered trees, is exceptionally beautiful. In another month, Oze will begin to welcome spring. We will soon be bidding farewell to this white world. For more information about Oze, visit TEPCO Renewable Power website! 【Oze & TEPCO】 tepco.co.jp/rp/oze/

[Communication Booth held in Niigata Prefecture] At the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station, we have implemented a number of safety measures based on the lessons learned from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station accident. On Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22, we held a communication booth in Joetsu City, where Niigata Headquarters Representative Kakizawa had an opportunity to speak directly with visitors. From those who visited, we received comments regarding the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station such as, “You demonstrate a strong commitment to safety in light of the accident.”, “Radioactive materials have a fearsome aspect because they are invisible.” and “We expect your contributions to the local community.” Going forward, we will continue to sincerely address the questions and concerns received from people in Niigata Prefecture through our communication booths. We will also consistently provide clear and easy-to-understand explanations about Japan’s energy mix, the necessity of nuclear power, and safety measures at nuclear power stations.
