My friends, I'm extraordinarily sad to report my Dad passed away last Sunday morning from Alzheimer's. I am beyond heartbroken. We were "2 peas in a pod". He always listened & encouraged me to know I am smart & capable. He truly was my hero.❤🤍💙I feel so lost without him.😭💔

Prestin was 10. Zaiden was 5. Prestin died on Friday. Yesterday, Zaiden joined his big brother. “My whole life and heart is sitting in heaven today,” their mother wrote in a public Facebook post. She said she hopes her boys are together again, playing in heaven. One week ago today, Prestin and Zaiden were riding in the back seat of their father’s vehicle when investigators say an alleged intoxicated driver, traveling nearly 100 mph, crashed into them near 114th and West Center Road. The first officers to arrive did everything they could. They witnessed a family’s worst nightmare, and those moments stay with them long after the scene is cleared. Our hearts are with Preston and Zaiden’s parents, their loved ones, and everyone grieving their loss. If you’d like to help ease the family’s financial burden, we’ve posted the GoFundMe link in the comments. (Omaha Police Officers Association)

This is my son, Tommy Roy. This is his graduation pic from 2003. He is autistic and has Schizoaffective disorder. He has been with me since the day he was born. This guy has been my life's greatest challenge, yet my life's greatest joy over 45 years now.

I started out here telling stories about my 3-year-old. Then he was 4… And somehow I blinked, fell into a time warp, and now he’s 7. So I’m going to cry alone in my car for a minute. Tears for the little boy he’ll never be again. Tears of pride and joy for the incredible young man he’s becoming. And tears of absolute gratitude that God entrusted him to me.

2 years ago yesterday we were saying goodbye to the PICU after an almost 7 month stay. Never did I think 2 years later we’d be enjoying ice cream together watching a baseball game. I hoped but with her health challenges we just weren’t sure. She still has her ups and downs but overall she’s doing amazing. So proud of this little Poptart 🫶🏼💖

I'm a trauma therapist working with extreme kinds of trauma: suicide of a child/spouse, death out of order, murder victim's survivors. Long term SA etc. If you're reading this and you can't afford therapy this post is meant for you. I've been in intense personal pain through the last 4-5 months and I want to share with you, what I've seen help my clients and myself. 1. If you have to compartmentalize so you can work, block out time to grieve. This is now part of your job. Aim for 4 hours minimum for this grief period. If you feel numb and/or dissociative, lie down, close your eyes, and listen to the psalms (I like the Dwell app). Allow yourself to feel, not feel, drift, focus, listen to the psalms, talk to God, breathe. Cry, don't cry. Notice your feelings. 2. Make it a priority to get enough sleep. If your anxiety/pain/fear is keeping you awake: Listen to the psalms on low volume and pray to God. Just keep talking to Him. He's there with you. Pray until you fall asleep. If you're still struggling to fall asleep, give yourself time to wind down before bed Try to schedule meals so you don't go to bed feeling starving or stuffed full 3. Prioritize time with God, the Healer While thinking about the goodness of God, journal for ten minutes every day, whether you want to or not (research supports this being helpful) If you're able, spend ten minutes every day meditating: focusing all of your attention on Jesus. Try to imagine Him. Drift with thoughts about how it will feel when you see Him face to face. Immerse yourself in His love 4. Give yourself time. Try not to 'hurry up and move on'. You need time to heal. No pressure. Just give yourself time. Accept that you can be in pain during this season and God is with you right in the middle of it with you. 5. Try not to isolate but allow yourself alone time when you need it. This was on my heart today, as I'm dealing with my own pain, and working with clients who are suffering. Take the parts that work for you, and take it one step at a time. I'm talking to you not as a therapist, but as a fellow sufferer. This post is not meant as therapy, or meant to replace therapy. If you can find a good trauma therapist you can afford, I recommend finding someone you trust and talk with them. God bless you, and remember that this, too, will pass. With love, Ronda

Cancer survivors: You have the right to set your own pace. You have the right to celebrate small victories. You have the right to protect your peace. You have the right to say "no" without guilt. You have the right to ask for help. You have the right to change your mind. You have the right to laugh, even on difficult days. You have the right to hope for better days. You have the right to be proud of how far you've come. You have the right to keep believing in tomorrow.
