Thrilled to co-host the launch of NY’s first BIPOC Democracy Table at #SOMOS2024! Grateful to the steering committee - NAACP, Brennan Center, NY Immigration Coalition, & Citizen Action - for ensuring BIPOC leadership drives racial equity in democracy reform.

“Blaming the outcome of this election on the Hispanic electorate is simply not supported by the electoral math in the Blue Wall states. To say otherwise is not only irresponsible, it is bad political analysis,” say Equis’s co-founders @stephanievalenc and @carlosodio

If your ONLY takeaway from the real and devastating fact that there was an increase in Latinos voting for Trump this cycle is “racism” and “proximity to whiteness,” there’s this thing called critical thinking that I highly recommend. Try it - you’ll like it!

@DrVirgo1981 @julito77 No. I realize it’s easier to make Latinos the scapegoat to deal with this horrendous moment but this is not it.

@julito77 This gaslight is wild. As if the rest of us don’t live in the same economy. As if Black people and indigenous people aren’t the ones that are most disproportionately affected by the economy. At some point, you guys need to look in the mirror and just say it was racism and sexism.

It was always about the economy, which was always the top issue for Latinos, who were always more independent. The warning signs were always there.

@ElieNYC Please stop. Do better. We’re past the stage of blame. Let’s figure out a path forward for the next four years. You’ve made your point. Now what?

Latino voters did not vote against their interests, if you understand that the person who gets into a treehouse has an “interest” in pulling up the ladder behind them. Trump only promised to push the “bad” Latinos out of the tree… and they’re confident that doesn’t mean them.

Most Latinos voted against him. And they’re going to face some of the worst consequences anyway if this goes south. If anyone wants to actually understand the few who shifted, we can have that convo. But there are better, more constructive & more honest places to point blame.
Elie Mystal@ElieNYC

I don’t think it’s helpful to wish people ill. Latinos wanted this man. I hope that works out for them. White women had a chance to restore abortion rights. They declined. I hope that works out for them. People get the country they deserve.

Today, the NYC Council announced ‘City for All,’ a holistic housing plan for all New Yorkers. Here’s what we’re most excited about: ✅ More tenant protection vouchers to keep people in their homes ✅ Funding for AHTP to ensure that tenants are in housing without bad conditions ✅ Funding to make repairs for NYCHA tenants ✅ Funding to repair empty NYCHA apartments and move in new tenants These plans will help our city thrive by stabilizing our communities. We look forward to working with the Council to deliver justice to our clients and low-income New Yorkers in all boroughs. Learn more about the City Council's proposed housing solutions here: council.nyc.gov/press/2024/11/…
