Protests broke out in Manipur’s Churachandpur this evening, a day after Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and the Kuki Zo Council (KZC) held an ice-breaking meeting in Assam’s Guwahati. The protesters came toward the house of KZC chairman Henlianthang Thanglet, a district official said. A senior police officer declined to comment when asked whether the meeting triggered the protest. A Churachandpur resident said on phone that Thanglet’s house, guarded by armed people from another tribe, is in a neighbourhood of the Zomi tribes. Personal enmity may have sparked the protest. The police have asked the public not to spread misinformation.
