It's that he's stopped trying to sand them down. The warts-and-all version of himself is more interesting and more sympathetic than the carefully managed version ever was. He's not rationalizing. He's not explaining. He's just... present. The contrast Graham draws is sharp. Jill's memoir is carefully constructed self-justification that's landing as exactly that. Joe spoke Friday night at a Best Western in Sioux Falls and The Times described him as "at times halting and hard to understand, at other times yelling clearly at the top of his voice." Meanwhile Hunter is posting crack pipe corrections from a Super 8 off I-95. There's a real lesson buried in this about authenticity as a political and personal posture. The people who over-managed their images are struggling. The one who stopped managing his is connecting.

Thanks I forgot: Joe Biden received 81 million votes. More than any candidate for President in the history of this country. It was a total landslide. A wipe out of historic proportions. He then went on to pass more bipartisan legislation than any President since LBJ. Conversely Donald Trump has not done much except start a war no one wanted doubled inflation expanded the trade deficit to historic highs and enriched himself and his family to the tune of billions of dollars.
