Finally got the courage to meander the baby aisle to start research and planning. A few observations after nearly a decade out of this scene. 1. Lots of way cooler products. Car seats that turn into strollers, wearable pumps etc. 2. Everything is more expensive. $650 for a car seat? $700 strollers? Maybe I was just naive last time. We had a lot of nice hand me downs. 3. No maternity clothes. Anywhere. Not target, Walmart, old navy, nothing. Only online now. Looks like ten years later my favorite place to shop will once again be Facebook marketplace.

Tomorrow I’ll be seeing quite a few of you at the Gala and you might notice something different about me and politely wonder…. “Baby or Burrito?” Then you will shake your head and think… “she is about to have a teenager, has a full house and she’s in her 40’s… definitely has to be burrito” Weight gain is common at this age after all. (Trust me, I googled that and the other symptoms as well). Yet, as statistically unlikely as it is, and as shocked as we all are… Not a burrito. A new little one is indeed joining our home this September. We are shocked but excited. I’ve had to put aside most projects earlier this year as I tried to survive a brutal case of hypermesis gravidarum that put me in the hospital at one point. So if you were working with me on something and felt I was flaky or unresponsive… I’m deeply sorry. I did the best I could to keep things going and I’m getting better now. Excited for what’s ahead! (Both of us) will see you all tomorrow!

@TKyle @SMB_Attorney This was an ex parte motion in bankruptcy court. I can’t imagine that this is the type of scenario where you need case law to support based on specific facts.

POV: You just paid S&C, one of the three most expensive and high-powered law firms in the world, $3000 per hour to submit AI slop to the court on your behalf. No one is safe.

Most of them are templatized. But the caselaw supporting specific conclusions based on the facts of the case are different much of the time. You're always looking for a case with closely analogous facts to support your conclusion. It's usually "I need a case that says XYZ" and good luck.

I’m not a litigator, so I have no idea how this works. Serious questions: > how does S&C not know the case law associated with a routine motion cold? > how are these motions not templatized?

Talking to my brother, @investing_law, we discussed how AI in legal is like that guy at a party that speaks really confidently and everyone is nodding along until you think to yourself, hold on, this is all nonsense.

The threshold for being a Qualified Client (the "forgotten" wealth standard) is going UP. QC status is sometimes a big bummer for GPs finding out that states have their own investment advisers rules. If your fund/SPV is limited to Qualified Clients, this affects your investor base!

Another all-American Saturday winding down...I am wiped (in a good way). Saturdays are my favorite because I get an equal mix of everything I love: work, exercise, quality time with the kids, quality time with my wife. By the end of the day I am spent, but it's spent for others, and that makes me happy.

"...it is rationally related to the legitimate government purpose of raising capital to fund government programs." That's it. That's the test. And courts have consistently held that progressive tax structures not otherwise classified by a protected class (race, gender, religion, etc) meet that test.

Biggest tell that someone is using AI-generated language? They copy + paste from AI into a Times New Roman font--and you get a bunch of "tick marks" instead of apostrophes. That, and the hallucinations.

The Investments Lawyer (Michael Huseby)
On Friday, my $800 Claude Co-Work laptop arrives. Here’s my plan: > Run experiments without giving any access to client data. > Manipulate our form documents and workflows using invented clients and fund terms. > Create a separate email address for the Claude computer (each email address will be named after a secret agent, e.g., James Bond, Jason Bourne – this is important). > Any work product generated by James Bond will be emailed from James Bond to Michael Huseby, such that James Bond never has access to my computer. Perhaps this is overkill, but two things are true at the same time: 1️⃣ NOT experimenting with Co-Work sounds like an excellent way to get left behind, quickly. 2️⃣ Running cutting-edge AI on your real work laptop presents potential risks I’m not prepared to run…yet. It’s true that Claude lets you select specific folders to give access to, but our industry is high-risk enough that we must be careful. If/when we become completely comfortable that we can run Co-Work on our primary machines, then we’ll do so. Until then, we’ll run agents on burner computers with no client data.

Last night, the Nashville Metro Council voted to oppose the Music City Loop, a private project that would improve infrastructure in Tennessee at no cost to taxpayers. Woke bureaucrats should not condemn the @boringcompany simply because they don't like @elonmusk.

Can investors withdraw from a fund whenever? Well, no. And the rules on withdrawals depend on whether the fund is closed or open-ended Check out our Fundamentals series on Investment Fund Key Terms. This slideshow is based on Part 12, "LP Withdrawals". Link in the comments 👇
