Rewatched Scott Pilgrim vs The World with @Xiviansan. Still one of my favorites. The casting is perfect (with special mention to Kieran Culkin as Wallace and Jason Schwartzman as Gideon), the jokes still get me, and the fight choreography is goddamn amazing.

@BenisKen I like “Without you I am nothing” showing Cinder has tragically put herself back in abusive servitude, only with someone she can’t easily dispatch. But they kept calling back to it the same volume. It felt heavy handed, beating us over the head with the ‘feel bad for Cinder’ bat.

Her backstory should have come much later.
Even if V8 was her arc of regaining lost competence her backstory was an unnecessary thing to show this early.
It’s just because people kept demanding it that they relented and gave it to us.

@BenisKen @EmilyHa19633868 Oh yeah, him ending up how he did was pretty much inevitable. Especially if you consider the fairytale character he represents. I was more thinking that an in-universe explanation of his Semblance would’ve lessened the amount of people that say his turn came out of nowhere.

@TLGR3D @EmilyHa19633868 Yeah but that was the point of his arc, you see it happen in v2 wherein no matter Glynda trying to talk him out of it and him seemingly agreeing he still goes behind Oz’s back and inevitably plays into the villains’ hands.
Then his paranoia gets the best of him.

His Semblance really should’ve been explained within the show because him suddenly becoming the biggest piece of shit can be kind of jarring when it’s not told that his Semblance is basically slowly corrupting him.

@BenisKen @EmilyHa19633868 Maybe “Corrupting” wasn’t the word I was looking for, but his Semblance making him extremely fixated on achieving his goals, regardless of any consequences, only added fuel to the fire and was largely a detriment to him in the end.

The toxic side of his fandom talk about B&Y like they took joy in his death, but it’s obvious, based on the lyrics of the V6 credits theme and the fact that Blake bursts into tears right after, that his death wasn’t something they wanted, but he didn’t give them a choice.

@VirtueSlayer233 It feels like he’s there to keep Ozpin in the story and he’s not anything much beyond Ozpin’s chauffeur until the merge concludes. With the stuff in the V9 epilogue and Beyond, it feels like any individuality he had will be gone in favor of him being Ozpin in everything but name.

Amazing character on paper and in concept but in execution he is just… eh
Beyond his character stuff with Ozpin and the Merge he is just kind of there and isn’t all that interesting to me

@lndeedee I think people were disappointed that she didn’t trauma dump about Atlas falling, but I feel if they’re gonna do it, they’ll save it for V10 when she actually has time to process it all. The state of Remnant wasn’t really a factor until they could actually get back to Remnant.

I genuinely want to know why ppl think Weiss was mischaracterized cause like? Just cause she fell/got a rock thrown at her/ etc. like why is that mischaracterization cause it was comical. She acts the same as she had the previous seasons?
