Kelvin Sampson shares what separates good programs from great ones. It comes down to 3 things. "The best teams come from the coaching staffs that are the best demanders. There are certain non-negotiables." "We're not going to sit down and talk about this...This is the way it's done and we expect this effort." No debate. No negotiation. Just the standard. "And those eventually will be called standards. So - standards, accountability, and then we've raised our expectations." "Here's our expectations, and our expectation is probably a little bit higher than most people's. We don't talk about them." The standard is how you operate every day. "We practiced this morning at 6:00. Probably our best practice in the last 6 or 7 days. But that's because our standards are raising. Our kids are holding each other accountable now." Then he said the line that defines a great program: "That's when you know you've got a great program." When the players hold each other accountable not just the coaches. That's when you've built something real. The formula is: 1. Standards 2. Accountability 3. Raised Expectations. A great team isn't made of individuals seeking personal glory - it's made of people who hold each other accountable and work towards a common goal (🎥 March Madness)

Kelvin Sampson didn’t inherit a winning program - he built one. Houston had 1 NCAA Tournament bid in 21 years. Now? • 8 straight 25+ win seasons. • A yearly national championship contender. Here’s how he built the most consistent program in the nation: (📌Bookmark this)

Recruits the one question that comes up from 4 Year coaches other than character and GPA questions is Can they defend? Can they guard? Prioritize that side of the ball (defense) and you give yourself a chance at the next level!

I’m a champion & a competitor, so I always want to win more games & C’hips, but I’m proud of the 3 str8 20-win seasons & 93 wins in 5 years, including 57 conference wins. My job as coach is much more than wins, so I’m equally proud of our off-court success. Those matter more…

I live in a cul-de-sac. My neighbor, Mrs. Gable, is 82. She’s grumpy. She yells if a ball rolls on her lawn. She keeps to herself. Last week, I noticed her blinds hadn't opened in two days. I went over and knocked. No answer. I tried the door. Unlocked. I found her in the kitchen. She had fallen. She was conscious, but weak. She’d been there for 24 hours. I called 911. I sat with her until they came. "I didn't want to bother anyone," she whispered. "I'm just a cranky old woman." "You're my neighbor," I said. She went to the hospital for a week. While she was gone, I mowed her lawn. My wife planted flowers in her planters. The kids made "Welcome Home" signs. When the ambulance brought her back, she saw the yard. She didn't yell about the grass. She cried. Yesterday, a ball rolled onto her lawn. She walked out, picked it up, and tossed it back to my son. "Nice arm, kid," she yelled. She’s not the grumpy neighbor anymore. She’s Alice. Check on your neighbors. Even the grumpy ones. Especially the grumpy ones. Anonymous

No dije nada. Llegamos a casa. Mi hijo no me habla. Mi exesposa dice que lo humillé. Que exageré. Que solo era una bicicleta vieja. Pero ayer vi algo raro. Mi hijo salió temprano de casa. Caminando. Hablando.

Underrated coaching truth: The best coaches aren’t obsessed with talent. They’re obsessed with effort. With attitude. With toughness. That’s what wins when it gets hard.
