TMFR responded with REMSA and @WashoeSheriff Search & Rescue this morning to the MT Rose summit for a hiker that suffered a medical emergency and had to be air lifted to the summit parking lot by WCSO Raven with non life threatening injuries.

We’re off to a busy start! Three brush fires occurred in our region Friday, and with more people heading outdoors this weekend, the risk only increases. Please avoid activities that can spark a wildfire, especially during the hottest part of the day.

⚠️Owl Fire is in TMFPD jurisdiction, started about 5pm near Wadsworth. Forward progress has stopped, and crews are in mop up. 8 acres, no structures lost or injuries reported. Cause is likely target shooting. @washoecounty

ALERT: Reno Fire crews are on the scene of a brush fire north of West Fourth Street between Del Curto Drive and McCarran Boulevard. The fire is estimated at 6 to 8 acres. Multiple structures are nearby, but no damage has been reported. West Fourth Street is closed. Please avoid the area and give crews and emergency vehicles plenty of room to work. ⚠️UPDATE on #ElephantFire - No significant fire growth overnight, 4,400 acres with minimal containment. Expect drift smoke to continue to move into the Truckee Meadows region, particularly the north valleys, Cold Springs, Red Rock, Sparks and Spanish Springs.

⚠️TMFR is closely monitoring the #ElephantFire in Lassen and Sierra Counties. Drift smoke is settling into the Cold Springs, Lemmon Valley, Sun Valley and Sparks/Spanish Spring regions. There is currently no threat to our communities. @washoecounty

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 2 PM to 9 PM today, Friday, June 10. The combination of gusty winds and dry fuels can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before firefighters can contain them.

⚠️#TMFR and Storey County Firefighters knocked down a moving van fire on I80 westbound between Mustang and Patrick. No injuries reported and no spread to the wild land. Expect delays.
