Harris should honestly endorse and drop an ad here and seal the deal. After the miss in Texas, she needs a win, and Stevens stuck by Harris (rather an Uncommitted) in 2024, so it'd be a decent loyalty reward.

I’m ready to take the stage on Thursday and make my case to Mainers. But nobody should be shut out of a U.S. Senate debate because of an arbitrary threshold based on the results of an entirely different race. I urge News Center Maine to reconsider its standard for participation.

Minnesota Governor 1990 is even wilder than NJ, and was even closer to the election. In both cases, the party that replaced its nominee due to scandal won, for the record.

Here we go: The best (only?) precedent for the post-Platner candidate swap. In 2002, NJ Sen. Robert Torricelli dropped Sept. 30 (!) due to ethical issues and was replaced by Frank Lautenberg. Still, unlike Maine, not a semi-open replacement process and less competitive state.

Everyone acting as if it's not relatively common practice for a family member to succeed a member of Congress to complete their term is telling on themselves as knowing nothing about politics, and maybe you shouldn't think of them as "experts" the next time they claim to be.

@StatisticUrban I mean, we have no concept of the environment then or if either of these candidates end up being better than they were in their first race (look at how much better Ossoff or Al Franken were on their second campaign compared to the first). Winning in Nov is enough for now.
