Yesterday 4 people died due to Lightning in #Virudhunagar. Every year, >5000 die in India. This thread is about Lightning precaution & busting myth. Many think, people die due to direct lightning strike, but most of the death happens due to the concept called step potential 1/10

Mekedatu if it happens will be biggest disaster for TN in 21st century. Every drop of Cauvery water will enter TN after the dam, as of now we get good water from undammed catchment btw KRS/Kabini and Mettur. It is bad for Cauvery river, this dam will restrict its breathing flow

Supreme Court judgement put Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) as agency to decide on Mekedatu dam. CWMA has 9 members, in that 5 appointed by Govt of India, one each from KA, TN, KL, and PY. By law, CWMA can approve Mekedatu dam overriding opposition from TN & KL 1/2

The old video by Lakshmi Nair Chechi taken when they were demolishing the Muttom red-sanddune in Kanyakumari dt. She would have never realised that, her video is one of the remnant memories of Muttom red-sanddune landscape. College mafia's rule the roast.

Harris Karishma, the daughter of D Pandian, a palmyra climber from a small hamlet in Tamil Nadu's Viluppuram, is the first woman climber of Tamil Nadu. Seeing her dad climb, she tried climbing a palm tree one day, only to panic midway, not knowing how to climb down. That was the start of her journey as a palm climber, at the age of 12. The 18-year-old now aspires to document the lives of those dependent on palm. To know more about the palm climbers of Poorikudisai, watch the full video here: youtube.com/watch?v=-228OK… #palms #tamilnadu #livelihood #goodfoodmovement

I dont have a hope, whatever little bit leftout in Muttom also will be destroyed in few years. Those who destroyed the Muttom landscape are part ADMK, DMK, and current govt also, they also part of both big national parties. In corrupted society, govt is just a change of name

This video at 1:42 sec shows the demolition of Muttom Red sandstone/dune. We lost the unique geological feature in the last 20yrs. In USA, they not just protect wildlife, their national parks focus more on unique geological feature and landscape

@TNGeography Plus, a part of the area has been occupied by the Jeppiar private fishing harbor, all of which came up in the last 15–20 years. My relatives still live near this area. During my childhood, I used to drink a lot of palm sap and eat cashews from here, but now both have reduced

@HaiyanTip We know that Nellai Theri was once filled with sea water, so they formed marine sandstone layer above base Charnockite SGT, then sand pushed there by wind & weathering, coloring happened afterwards due to iron in Garnet n Charnockite base mostly before 6000 to 20000yrs 2/2

@HaiyanTip Red sand found in many places like Thanjai-Pudukottai, Aruppukottai, & popular old Nellai (Theri) each has their origin, typically span 5000 to 25000 yrs. Theri sand sits above marine Calcareous sandstone formation, sand pushed by winds from ghats, coast, & erosion of bedrock 1/2

I heard Tamil Nadu govt to ban planting of non-native Conocarpus trees. Then why highways department still planting these trees. Tamil Nadu is home to 1000's of native tree species. What kind of coordination happening here?
The Hindu@the_hindu

Despite explicit warnings from environmentalists and blanket bans in States like Gujarat and Telangana, recent highway development projects across Tamil Nadu are inexplicably continuing to plant the invasive Conocarpus tree. ✍️C. Palanivel Rajan thehindu.com/news/cities/Ma…

@Muhilan20047884 Yelagiri forest areas are protected as reserve forest, Yelagiri mountain has many villages, it's a densely populated hill, so large scale mining is not feasible. Yelagiri is part of eastern ghats

@TNGeography Sir is Yelagiri not a part of eastern ghats? If the government decides to mining these materials , will it not create a natural disaster? Growth and nature both doesn't co-exist

North-west Tamil Nadu is home to chain of rare Alkaline-Carbonatite Complex formations in Samalpatti, Koratti, Yelagiri, Jogipatti, & Onnagarai along the Dharmapuri rift zone. These deep-mantle rocks are naturally rich in fluorine, which slowly leaches into local groundwater 1/7

These alkaline carbananite rocks are naturally loaded with fluorine-bearing minerals. Over millions of years, slow-moving groundwater dissolves them, pushing fluoride levels in deep borewells well above safe limits. Making drinking water crisis in these regions 7/7

These formation are heavily enriched in phosphorus, vermiculite, & magnesite. It also has Light Rare Earth Elements (LREEs like Lanthanum and Neodymium) for electronics, and large-ion minerals like Barium and Strontium, including small amount of globally rare Benstonite 6/7
