US Lawmakers Challenge India’s Foreign Funding Rules
Several US lawmakers from both parties have raised concerns over proposed amendments to India’s Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), arguing the changes could make it harder for foreign-funded NGOs to operate and give the government greater control over their assets. (HT)
The criticism comes even as India has long defended the FCRA as a tool to regulate foreign funding on grounds of transparency and national security, with US lawmakers warning the changes could disproportionately affect certain NGOs and religious organisations.
