On Resurrection Sunday, the day Christians proclaim a risen Christ, hope, and the Prince of Peace, the unhinged, maniacal, President of the United States took to social media and threatened to rain down destruction on another nation, using profanity and talking about bombing power plants and bridges that civilians depend on to live.  Let that sink in. Not a call for peace. Not a plea for diplomacy. Not a word about the sanctity of life. But threats of devastation, wrapped in arrogance and signed off with religious language. This is the man who lied and said he stopped eight wars and thinks he deserves a noble peace prize. This is not strength. This is recklessness. Experts have already warned that targeting civilian infrastructure could amount to war crimes and would endanger innocent lives. And yet, many who claim the name of Christ are silent. Silent while lives are threatened. Silent while violence is glorified. Silent while the gospel of Jesus Christ is contradicted by the very leader they defend. The same Jesus they shout about on Resurrection Sunday said…Blessed are the peacemakers…Love your enemies…Do good to those who hate you. There is nothing Christ-like about threatening to plunge millions into darkness, suffering, and death. So where are the voices of the church? Where are the prophets? Where are those who claim moral authority? Because if your faith cannot speak when power becomes dangerous, your faith is not prophetic, it is complicit. Resurrection is about life overcoming death, not leaders threatening to bring death to others. And any Christianity that is comfortable with this kind of behavior Is not the Christianity of Jesus Christ.
