@natabasso Most teachers. There are thousands upon thousands of incredible teachers who live a quieter existence, not utilizing social media, not running a TpT store, who are the difference makers everywhere. Shout out to them!

The barriers women face are a problem, but an even bigger problem may be the lack of barriers faced by mediocre men. hbr.org/2013/08/why-do…

Sometimes the simplest changes have the largest impact. Sitting with students rather than standing. Talking less. Listening more. Giving an extra few minutes for student thinking beyond what you normally do. Agency is often a series of small moments leading up to larger ones.

When kids are deprived of play, their mental health suffers. Over the past 50 years, the time kids spend playing outside and inside has plummeted. They're missing opportunities to bond, build self-control, be creative, and feel joy. Free play is a key to happiness and growth.

Students getting “stuck” together on a task early on can do incredible things to help establish an inclusive and supportive classroom culture. In the first few days of school, which will having a greater lasting impact…reviewing the syllabus or offering learning experiences where students grow together and see the teacher having confidence in their abilities? 🤔🗣️ #mathchat #STEM @pgliljedahl

When you burn people out, you push them out. Stars are the first to leave—they have the most opportunities. The solution is not to pile on the perks. It’s to pinpoint the root causes of overload and design more manageable jobs. If you want to keep people, stop exhausting them.

Story is a powerful vehicle for change as it's a return to the oral tradition. What's next in education is a return to what's been erased.

@heymrsbond I quit shopping and prepping on Sundays because it was making me dislike Sunday! My friend encouraged me to shop on Thursday evening. I love it because then I have all the ingredients I need for the weekend if we have company, and it gives me more time to prep and plan

Toxic cultures exploit generosity. Takers impose extra work on givers, and no good deed goes unpunished. Healthy cultures reward generosity. People protect givers from takers, and cream rises to the top. Helpfulness is not a weakness to target. It's a strength to safeguard.

@GiftedTawk I think meetings could be amazing spaces for collaborative design, problem-solving, and learning from one another, but, many people who run meetings where I work do not use that time this way. They read through a list of items, and then the meeting is over.

I agree...and this is one of the most concise and clear statements I have read on the matter... "It is incredibly clear that the pressures of tests and grades do not incentivize but rather hinder mathematical and genuine understanding."
Melissa D@Dean_of_math

It’s time for this to change.
