Raise your hand if you’re a scientist that’s ever been forced to use Henrietta Lacks’ (HeLa) cells in the lab 🙋🏾♀️ I cried. I said are there ANY other cells we can use? They said NO. Not for the protocol we were using. SO MANY scientific discoveries were made using her cells.

@AJohnsonHist I thought it was based on context. Like first gen PhD or first gen in college…like I’m the first to earn a PhD but not the first to graduate college.

Not to play oppression Olympics but I honestly thought “first gen” meant first in your family to graduate college, not first to earn a PhD. Color me shocked to learn this today lol

After taking a few days off, I just want to announce that I successfully defended my thesis! 🥰 Still uncomfortable with being addressed as doctor, but I think I’ll get over it soon.

Is the transition from grad student to postdoc this hard? 😭Thesis writing, job hunting, moving, planning celebrations, etc. I'm exhausted.

@TSutton26 It was one of the most exhausting periods of my life. The transition was about a year long. I’m so much healthier now than I was during that time. Hang in there and just stay focused on that light at the end of the tunnel, and remember you can only do your best so many days 🫶
