First we had the mystery of the Roman dodecahedron from Lincolnshire on #DiggingForBritain, now another mysterious bronze/brass object has the twitterati bubbling with hypotheses! If the wisdom of the masses holds true - it’s either a piece of a bedstead, a toilet flush pull or a coal scuttle handle! But can @findsorguk resolve this conundrum?

More research into the brooch type needs to take place to establish this, but one thing is certain; these are rare and highly informative little pieces of Scottish jewellery that continue to offer insight into the use and presentation of personal adornment in the Medieval period.

There has been some suggestion that both brooches could have come from the same workshop.
