This is possibly my favorite time-lapse that I've ever taken. Watching the colors explode then transition thru the spectrum is spectacular.

13 years since the Moore tornado of 2013. I’ll never forget watching the terminal Doppler data in real-time as it captured incredible detail of this EF-5 tornado.

I still remember on May 23, 2008 sitting near Ellis, KS waiting on a late-evening storm, Dick McGowan runs over like "you see the big tor by Quinter??" and gets out his camera LCD screen to show me a pic. That never happens anymore! I'd have seen that crap on twitter hours ago.
Andrew Pritchard@skydrama

It’s all going to be relative for each person but 2005-12 was the golden age of storm chasing for me. You had some tech, radar/gps in the field but the internet was smaller, and you didn’t know what happened at the next storm over until you were back at the hotel for the night.

@samdienst @skydrama If that car was a 2000 Avalon it’s possible that was me haha. We pulled off onto a dirt road to watch the rope and it was *muddy*

@skydrama Has to be an all-time warm front too. I’ll never forget staying in North Platte the night before then driving across that warm front into the warm sector early in the day. 40s with a driving east wind into backed flow and 78/65 over several miles.

@TTrogdon That entire late May 2008 sequence was legendary. Will always remember how bad the pattern looked leading up to it as well... Plains looked totally ridged out when all of a sudden that trough started inching closer and closer to ejecting.

Rapid updraft development just northeast of Denver. Charge separation happening before you would feel rain. Impressive lightning strikes with a likely strong storm developing. Life on the front range.

@evan_bentley No worries! This is a good place to start. We rely heavily on it, specifically for downslope wind forecasting, and I was going to distribute it to staff. Thanks, Evan!

@TTrogdon Sorry I don’t have a more specific answer. We are fortunate that our SOO summarizes the results for us every fall and spring in our forecaster training.

HREF/SREF/NAM retirement: I have seen some people provide some clarity on aspects of this, but since this is something at the SPC we have been working with for awhile, I wanted to address all aspects of this in one spot. 🧵

@theWXmaster @TTrogdon while playing on anything called the hailraisers is extremely appealing, my current weekly sports commitments rival those of a high school juior

Unfortunately, I do think there's fairly high bust potential with Monday's rain for the Denver metro. The surface low is pretty far north, and if it tacks another 50ish miles...could be a bust for Denver. Northern Colorado (Ft. Collins/Greeley) should do well regardless, though.

Looking promising for a rainy Sunday night/Monday, and potentially more beneficial moisture. Could be in the 1-2" range north of Denver, 0.5-1" most likely in/near town. If this pans out, it's another solid dent in the drought. Fingers crossed! #COwx

It is natural to be concerned, especially when such valuable tools are being retired. However, I feel better knowing that the same SPC science support branch who built the HREF has been tackling this model transition for awhile and has built the best solutions possible.

@BianchiWeather Like it never happened. 6.5” in Lafayette caused quite a bit of tree damage around the downtown area.

Incredible example of wind shear in the atmosphere over the Colorado front range today. Convective precipitation is moving east to west in a lower layer of the atmosphere as stratified precipitation moves west to east above. This is a relatively rare visual of a wind shear profile traced through precipitation echoes on radar.
