@JoeyK_EDA @matigary @KingMhare1 The article mentions several high-profile buildings that are being considered for designation as BKPO hubs. Joina City probably the first.

@matigary @KingMhare1 One building? Interesting. Will they scale this and perhaps designate a corridor like say Jason Moyo from 4th Street all the way to Rainbow Towers as an Economic Zone and help rejuvenate CBD?

Designation of Joina City as a special economic zone is a great initiative especially for outsourcing businesses. It grows the call center and outsourcing opportunities for anyone who can venture into it. heraldonline.co.zw/joina-city-set…

@bla_bidza I dont see Shoprite entering the market, but a Woolworth, Mr Price, H&M, Zara, Debonairs Pizza, Clicks etc could. The Mall of Zim is a great location, as it is close to office parks, private schools, and residential areas developed by West Prop. New "Sam Levy"

@bla_bidza Terrace Africa/Tigere REIT is receiving inquiries from South African and international retailers. West Prop should be to attract the same interest. They are also working with an SA property developer.

Idziwo idzi. He is building shopping malls and massive mansions in a depressed market where the retail sector itself is collapsing. Yet now he says he is courting South African retailers, and in SA, Shoprite, has just announced today its exit from Nigeria and is also leaving Mozambique amongst many African markets it has withdrawn. Which retail investor will look into an economy that is tuckshopising? When we tell you kuti the Zimbabwean property market has now become a depressed hedging sanctuary, we truly mean it. People are not investing because of depressed real demand or economic expansion; they are simply parking capital in property as a hedge. And the quality of tenants is of the very low-end in terms income, which in turn translates poor rental yields.

@JoeyK_EDA @IH_Group If @WOOLWORTHS_SA comes to Zim and follows the Foodlover Greendale blueprint, they could be successful. The 📍 (Mall of Zim) would be great, close to office parks, private schools & @WestPropZim residential areas They can ethically source cotton from local farmers/manufacturers

📺 𝗕𝘆𝗲-𝗕𝘆𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗺𝗮𝘅: 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹+ 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝗴 It’s official. 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹+, the new owners of MultiChoice, have announced they are shutting down 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗺𝗮𝘅. After years of trying to take on global giants like Netflix, the platform is being retired following a "strategic review" that found its massive losses simply unsustainable. For many subscribers, this news isn't a surprise. While the platform had potential, it often struggled with: * 📉 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Much of the library felt like a repeat of 𝗗𝗦𝘁𝘃 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗨𝗽, but with a less complete catalogue. * 🧩 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀: The shift to the "Peacock" technology (Showmax 2.0) was supposed to modernise the app, but many users found it harder to use, especially with missing subtitles and poor categorisation. * 🌍 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀: Despite great African originals like "Spinners" or "The Real Housewives," the platform struggled to market local content effectively compared to global competitors. * 💸 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀: Trading losses reportedly ballooned by 88% to nearly 𝗨𝗦$𝟯𝟬𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 in the last financial year alone. 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹+ plans to replace it with their own global streaming platform eventually, but for now, 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗺𝗮𝘅 is being phased out as part of a massive 𝗨𝗦$𝟰𝟯𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 cost-cutting exercise. If you are a current subscriber, your service will continue for now, but the end is officially in sight. 📲 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀𝗔𝗽𝗽 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱: whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va…

Dangote just told the New York Times that the refinery was only phase one. His next targets: Steel production. Power generation. Port infrastructure. The refinery is already doing 650,000 barrels per day and he says output will double within 3 years. 30,000 people currently employed, 80% Nigerians. That number is expected to hit 65,000 as these new sectors come online. He’s using Tata Group as his blueprint. The Indian conglomerate that went from steel to cars to IT and transformed an entire economy. Nigeria needs 40-50 million new jobs by 2030. No government program is solving that. Dangote is building the industrial base to actually absorb that population. And the part nobody is talking about. He plans to list the refinery on the NGX. Everyday Nigerians owning shares in Africa’s largest refinery. You buy in Naira, you get dividends in Dollars. Cement across Africa ✅ Refinery ✅ Fertiliser ✅ Now steel, electricity and ports. One man is solving the 3 biggest bottlenecks holding this country back. Power, logistics and manufacturing. “Nobody dared to do it, so we did it.“

Harare's hotel drought – and opportunity! In 2025, Zimbabwe won the bid to host the HQ of the Intra-African Trade Fair Company, which runs the Inter-African Trade Fair (IATF), run by Afreximbank, the AU and the AfCFTA. One of the conditions of hosting the IATF is that the host city (Harare) must have 20,000 three-to-five-star beds by end of 2027. Right now, Harare has fewer than 11,000 of those, a gap of 9,000 beds. The Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe (TBCZ), the association of tourism operators, says: "This is an opportunity for tourism industry players to refurbish their assets, repurpose real estate holdings and/or enter into strategic partnerships with landlords amenable to win-win property management arrangements." Zimbabwe starts hosting a series of IATF fairs in 2028, and players are now rushing to attract hotel investment. TBCZ says it is talking to banks to develop "tourism industry-focused financial products for refurbishments, retooling and re-purposing of tourism assets."
