@TVtrafficCop @ncwco00 Well sure, bad things definitely can happen. The game is played on ice and we let dudes slam into each other. Hockey will always carry bodily harm risks. I think there's a very clear difference between most things and illegal boarding, though.

They also hold onto each other during fights, mostly bc it's easier to punch that way but it has the added benefit of lessening momentum if a guy goes down. Fighting is not as dangerous as any blindside hit

@TVtrafficCop @ncwco00 Major difference with fighting is that it's two willing combatants and in the modern game most fights are a 10 second flurry of helmet punches. This is just something that's always been illegal in hockey

@TVtrafficCop @MolitorisNick That’s a very rare occurrence in fights. Hitting someone in the back as their head goes straight towards the boards is incredibly dangerous.

But in hockey fights, & these other sports, all parties agree to get hit in the head by each other (I wouldn’t do it myself 😂) in hockey they don’t agree to get hit from behind being sent head first into the boards at those speeds, far more dangerous than falling.

@hacker0819 Keep in mind it was ownership that admonished Shanahan back in the day to cut back on the heavy suspensions. Players weren't happy either but they were not the impetus.
