So after all the pre-tournament criticism, angst, and fearmongering (much done with anticipatory glee), the 2026 World Cup was a historic success. Incredible games, record crowds/viewers, and a cultural phenomenon. People were safe, entertained, and joyous. Visitors discovered, and Americans were reminded, just how wonderful our country is, all through the lens of soccer. I’m so happy for, and proud of, my country. Best World Cup ever. Thank you, America. 🇺🇸

@5liveSport Who introduced a country specific cartoon mascot while hosting?

Has America turned the World Cup into the Super Bowl?
Should we embrace local culture and local traditions?

@AlexiLalas Why are the guys on the sidelines to show the warmups behind them but then that is all blurred like they standing in front of a green screen or what idk bring back black and white tvs it wa much clearer

@Gideoomatic I don’t think the non Americans understand it is hard to find any soccer/futbol other than MLS on tv, yes many streaming now but euros difficult to find and all the rest. There is only now one or two soccer specific sports shows on us tv mostly very latenight. EPL was on network

@therach1314 @AlexiLalas The costs in USA have to be related to travel. Many more miles stateside as opposed to Europe where they could and do have top talent in a 12 team tournament in any neighborhood within an hour or so drive for everyone. Doesn’t happen that way in US, hotels days of driving/ flying
English

@AlexiLalas No one is saying it should all be free. But the industry has prioritized profits over development. Parents are convinced their little Alex is the greatest thing and if you don't believe them they will take their ball elsewhere, meanwhile they can do that because they make 200k

Youth soccer (youth sports) is a competitive market with businesses selling a product that obviously customers are willing to pay for. I’d love if soccer was free to all. But who is going to pay for all this free soccer?

One big US soccer thought: our youth development has to get more affordable. One of my kids plays travel. It’s at least $5k a year & this isn’t even super high end. We can afford it, thankfully, lots can’t. Youth sports costs in the US are out of control, soccer more than most.

@steamroomguy @galloots1313 @Alex04739937396 @stuholden @CarliLloyd The truth is that Yamal isnt doing anything that Pulisic didn’t do at the same age as far as taking players on and being lightning quick. I said it yep
English

@galloots1313 @Alex04739937396 @stuholden @CarliLloyd I got another one for you Michael, she said “Lamine Yamal has never proved himself on the big stage before” like he didn’t win the euros and ball out consistently in CL lol
Literally made me switch to telemundo for a bit

Moment of appreciation for the work of @CarliLloyd this summer — multiple back to back tv appearances in different cities with travel, late nights, insight and an incredible work ethic… oh btw while pregnant. Proud to be your teammate 💪

@FOXSoccer @stuholden Pst pst hey hey my inner thought is that “country roads take me home” just means its coming home, shhh don’t tell anyone.
English

To beat a team like Belgium, you need every single one of your top players to play at a high level.
