I remember one of the first times a gym flew me out to teach a seminars a brown belt, I was scheduled to teach sweeps and back takes from the guard because this is what I was having success with in competition at the time. When I got to the gym, I did open mat the night before the seminar and rolled with lots of the students. That night during the open mat, one of the coaches at the gym made comments to the gym owner disapproving what I was teaching because “it doesn’t work in a real fight”. When I asked that guy to roll he said he had to leave. And maybe he did but the vibe was more like he left the gym rather than roll with me 🤣 The lesson I learned from this is that sometimes people just need stuff to be mad at and they’d rather stay mad that learn more about why they’re mad. Applies to more of life than just Jiu-Jitsu.
