Against a low block, possession has to be judged by what it changes. The split is between circulation outside the block and access that moves defenders or gives the next receiver an advantage... tacticsjournal.com/research/2026/…

Ethiopia’s diaspora database has more than 200 players. Samoa’s heritage search found 350-plus eligible players. Dual-national recruitment still starts with a legal check, then role fit and commitment. tacticsjournal.com/research/2026/…

A player rehabbing before a major international target is trying to serve two teams at once. Clubs manage that pressure best when treatment, load, data and return-to-play steps sit in one visible plan. tacticsjournal.com/research/2026/…

@TacticsJournal Agree. The times I used it was when I handpicked 5 custom data points to measure something very specific I was looking for in a profile & even then cleaned the data, scaled it, League-weighted it, possession-weighted it, percentiled it & still gave discounts for tactics/role.

Good piece on radar charts. 90% of the ones I see shared on social media almost communicate nothing of note either due to bad data usage or bad logic or simply bad relevance to what is being analysed.

A radar chart can make the same player look better or worse depending on the scale. Use percentiles for rank, z-scores for distance from average, and raw numbers only when the scale is fixed and explained. tacticsjournal.com/research/2026/…

A player profile should separate in-possession, out-of-possession and transition work. A single final score is useful only after the club decides how much each part matters for the role it is buying. tacticsjournal.com/research/2026/…

The New Era FitScore study built a 90-second, full-body reactive fitness test. Clubs can use it as a general profile, but role-specific decisions still need match data, individual baselines, and proof that changes exceed normal test error. tacticsjournal.com/research/2026/…

@JFfutbol 30 seconds for a throw-in is a looooonngg time but I wouldn't mind different rules for different types of dead balls. Throw-ins 5s Corners 15s-20s Free Kicks 10s

@TacticsJournal Really good summary, couldn't agree more on almost all points - particularly 'feels like wasting time watching' which is how it's felt at times this season, tough to watch. Only thing I'm not convinced by is 10 seconds corner limit, but I think 30-45s could work well! 👏

I am someone who will watch every Premier League match, big or small. Lately, I feel like I am wasting my time watching. Remove VAR, fix the congested schedule, ban holding, and keep the ball in play. They are making English football look ridiculous. tacticsjournal.com/opinion/2026/0…

Fuck your NFL. We don't care. Tennis and cricket are sports with built in breaks in play so "replays" aren't as intrusive. The sport runs in our culture into the 1800s. You want your corporate bollocks fine. Leave us alone.
The Pitchside Pub@PitchsidePub

@FansAgainstVAR_ Your argument makes no sense. Corporate or not we’re not the only country using replay in our sports. Tennis has automated review. Cricket has replay. It’s everywhere. But the Americanization of replay could actually help you. Our NFL does replay exceptionally well.

@RF_FC1O Could argue it depends on the players you have at the end of the day. Having no space can be a positive for certain teams.

@TacticsJournal Relationism - seems to have no space but to create overloads on the pitch to have numerical advantage? Positional - seems to have space and time for qualitative superiority? Just wanting to get more understanding but what this looks like on the pitch is my opinion above 👍⚽️

Relationism is not a strict subset of positional play. It is a neighbouring possession logic: both can create control, superiority, progression, and counter-pressure, but they organise the player before the pass in different ways. tacticsjournal.com/research/2026/…

For former Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy, relationism is not the opposite of structure. The game still depends on players connecting around the ball, creating time for each other and knowing when to leave their positions. tacticsjournal.com/research/2026/…
