Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), also referred to as hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS), is a rare but severe zoonotic respiratory disease caused by hantaviruses carried by rodents. Humans are typically infected through inhalation of airborne particles contaminated with rodent urine, droppings, or saliva. The illness usually begins with nonspecific symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal complaints, but can rapidly progress to cough, shortness of breath, and acute respiratory distress due to fluid accumulation in the lungs and capillary leakage. This can lead to shock and life-threatening respiratory failure. The Gauteng Department of Health continues to restore sight, dignity and hope to thousands of people whose independence and quality of life were affected by cataracts. MEC for Health and Wellness, @FaithMazibukoSA, is conducting a follow-up service delivery oversight visit in Rus-Ter-Vaal after engaging with residents last week regarding delays in the refurbishment of the Rus-Ter-Vaal Clinic. A mobile clinic has also been deployed to assist with acute cases, while patients requiring more specialised or urgent care are being referred to Market Avenue Clinic in Vereeniging. From today, 20 April, residents can access services at the Rus-Ter-Vaal Community Hall, bringing healthcare closer to where they live. The services available include family planning, HIV screening and testing, child immunisation, treatment of acute minor illnesses, and flu vaccination. #GrowingGautengTogether #AsibeHealthyGP
