I really wish Superstars had explored the Black Onyx’s story more! The legend of the egg mentioned in Sonic 3 was likely retooled into the Black Onyx, and over time it became a legend, with the Onyx being reinterpreted as an egg

There’s a lot of evidence that the initial plan for Sonic 3&K was that Eggman’s shenanigans on Angel Island would awaken the true final villain: a “legendary dragon” who Sonic would fight at Doomsday zone. The original Hidden Palace mural would’ve depicted this fated battle 🐲

I don’t think Classic needs to be retired it needs to take some liberties from the advanced series because they have better ideas than the genesis games that could be explored like the partner mechanic, Knux wall spindash, and Advance 2 having better bosses than any genesis game
