I built a five-figure chess business in a male-dominated industry - and that with an all-women team. Chess is still largely run, taught, and monetized by men, and chess education is the same. When I started building my business, I wasn’t trying to make a point. I was trying to build a high-quality product - something I would be proud of as a professional chess player myself. I hired people I trusted, people who could teach well, communicate clearly, and genuinely care about students’ progress. They happened to be all women. Today, my team is 100% female: coaches, marketing specialists, operations managers, and even our video editors. We currently teach 450+ students worldwide, and over 2000 students have gone through our programs in the past 18 months. People often assume this must be easy but in reality, being a strong player, a popular streamer, or even a good coach is one thing and turning those skills into a business is another! There’s a reason people say great athletes aren’t always great coaches - and great coaches aren’t automatically great business builders. Gender doesn’t make a difference but skill, dedication, and hard work do. Being a Woman Grandmaster in a male-dominated field taught me one thing: you don’t wait to be validated - you build your own validation. Our business isn’t successful despite being led by women. It’s successful because it’s built on competence, discipline, and values. And this is only the beginning!
