#BREAKING: Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani arrives in Baghdad to hold a series of meetings with Iraqi political leaders to discuss the formation of the country’s next federal government and address key issues between Erbil and Baghdad - Rudaw reporter

A very strange statement from the KRG Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs, which denied the Pentagon’s assistance cut to the Peshmerga as “baseless” and said it “expects discussions on signing a new understanding between the two sides in the coming period.” But the Pentagon cut is not a rumour, nor is it baseless. It is literally in the unclassified Pentagon budget request sent to Congress for 2027, which can be found here: asafm.army.mil/Portals/72/Doc… The ministry’s reference to “signing a new understanding” is also a strange framing. Normally, such an understanding would have to be reached beforehand to ensure continuity in funding. If the funding is absent from the Pentagon budget request sent to Congress, then there is no new allocation for at least 2027. In other words, the Peshmerga Ministry’s statement is actually more wrong than the outlets it is trying to discredit. The budget cut reporting is based on a real, official Pentagon document, while the ministry’s denial rests on vague language about a possible future understanding.
