Simply, the Cubs FO failed to capitalize on the deadline with so many buyers. I do not know the offers or conversations but Taillon had to have good value given the deals we saw but even if they decided not to deal him here are others that should have been moved: - At least one of Julian Merryweather, Tyson Miller, and Jorge Lopez. - Drew Smyly - Hector Neris - At least one of David Bote or Patrick Wisdom. - Mike Tauchman Some of the players above likely had reduced value but clearing a spot for young up coming prospects, clearing a 40 man spot, and netting anything would have at least looked like they had clear direction.
