@EvaBeeSmith People are complaining about her new look? I had a singular issue with it, and it was solely that in part of the trailer, the lighting and angle meant her nose was just nostrils, nothing else. Just two dots on her face and it was distracting

@some_thin9_good the human body has the strange anomaly of relying on oxygen, but is unable to detect a lack of it. We could breathe in other gases that would kill us in place of O2, but not realize it. We detect too much CO2 to determine if we're not getting air, but not if the air we get is O2

What if oxygen is actually a slow-acting poison… and it just takes 75–100 years to finish us off

@csaurageul I wouldn't call it bad advice. Art is subjective and people approach it with their own styles, and that includes using white backgrounds, line colors, or white highlights. There's fundamentals necessary to improve (like anatomy when drawing people), but what they said isn't that

there are a number of quotes with terrible advice like this and you shouldn't listen to it drawing, like every other art form, is a technical skill at it's core, and an emotional one second, and there are fundamentals that you NEED to learn if you want to *actually* get better at drawing you cannot express your thoughts and feelings effectively if you lack the technical skill to pull it off telling people to just "do whatever" is like saying "music is just noise" it isn't you need to not only know the process, but understand why it exists, what it means you need to learn the rules BEFORE you start to break them you might think you know better than the thousands of years of great masters who came before you, but you don't listen to them

I have extra free time before I need to possibly cut down on commissions. I want to get some good ol' summertime pieces in. Through June 22, I'm offering a 10% discount on summer themed pieces: Beach Days, Swimsuits, Yukata, Summer Festivals, Summer Camp, etc #vgen #vgencommission

@seion_alter Something to note: anyone trying to be good at art can't do that by only copying someone else. They won't know the HOW for drawing anything the referenced artist hasn't already done. So adapting that style to do new things will always lead to variations distinct from the original

@seion_alter It can vary with some people feeling flattered (many take up teaching) and others getting upset. I think getting upset about it is a bit gatekeepy. Everyone learned from somewhere and was influenced by someone. You see something you like and you use it in your art. It's normal

@BigDogBeedo It is a game if you use the loosest definition of game that would've been less expensive and more successful if they just made it a movie. It's less interactive than the versions of the Final Destination movies where you had a QTE to decide if the character survives

@lalalalack I think it might be because of the new auto-translation. I've gotten a lot more non-English posts in my feed because of it now that there's no language-based filters needing them to be from someone I follow. It might be that causing an increase in non-Japanese posts for you

@ThiccWithaQ The trick is to pay with paypal and insist upon a hard deadline under 180 days. This conveniently allows you to make full use of paypal's customer protection program to get your money back if your artist turns out to be a scammer.

@ThiccWithaQ I use Vgen so it hasn't really been an issue there. I have to pay a % to Vgen, but there's a bit of guarentee through them, especially for a verified artist. You can banned for scamming someone, and VGen enforces refunds for not completing it in under a month

@NingenGokko24 I used to use both Paypal and Venmo (client preferences) before I moved to VGen. Vgen I still pay the Paypal fees when customers choose that instead of card. It's unfortunate, but I write off the payment fees on my taxes at least

I wonder how artists receive payments for personal commissions (no proper contract ones). I was using Paypal but the cost (processing fees, FX rates) is quite heavy...

@Nefereeta @NingenGokko24 VGen charges a payment fee for both Paypal and card payments. It's lower than Paypal's, but you have to pay both fees if the customer chooses to use Paypal (most mine do. I think it's only one every 6-8 commissions that use card instead of Paypal for me)
