KATU has now learned the backlog includes Elijah Arce, charged this week with kidnapping an 11-year-old girl in Salem. Investigators say officers and a member of the public found Arce and the little girl behind a fence hours after she disappeared. Court records show he was indicted in 2002 for the attempted rape and rape of three juvenile girls in Yamhill County. He eventually pleaded guilty to attempted rape and third-degree rape in October 2002, and a judge sentenced him to a combined 10 years of prison and post-prison supervision. A Department of Corrections spokesperson said Arce was released from prison in September 2004. The Parole Board confirmed to KATU that his post-prison supervision ended on Jan. 1, 2013. Additionally, he pleaded guilty in 2012 to failing to report as a sex offender. A judge sentenced him to 30 days in jail and 11 months of probation. Oregon State Police confirmed to KATU he is currently an unlevelled sex offender. It’s unclear if the classification process would start given Arce’s new charges. Unlevelled offenders are still required to register as sex offenders with Oregon State Police.

I was shopping the other day when I noticed an older lady looking at me intensely. I smiled and then she called me over, she wanted one of the pistachio ice cream from the freezer. She’s just too short to get it herself, by the time I turned around to hand it to her, 3 more ladies were waiting in line for the same product. So one of the perks of being a tall man, for me, is grabbing items from the top shelves for short, older ladies.

After an anti-ICE protest disrupted proceedings, Loretta Smith said she felt unsafe and began advocating for open carry for council members — and council members only. How about this, Loretta: go get your concealed handgun license like the rest of us if you want to carry. Follow the same rules your constituents do. And maybe stop pushing anti-gun control policies that strip rights from everyday Oregonians while carving out exceptions for yourselves!!! Equal rights don’t stop at the City Hall doors.
