Does anyone know if WIDA ever published the outcomes of the WIDA-CEFR correlation project work from January? I remember at the time summer was mentioned as the expected timeline. Have I missed it somewhere? @NordmeyerJ @ancatoma12 @WIDA_UW

Far too many popular strategies for teaching reading are not actually supported by research. We sifted through to find the ones that are most effective.

@mthman @teacher2teacher We did an old-fashioned roll-down-the-paper appreciation activity. Each St wrote their name at bottom of paper & passed it on. Next student wrote a note of appreciation about them, folded it down and passed it on. On and on until it came back to the orig st who got to read the 💛

Looking for some end-of-year advisory activities for my 8th graders. They've been great about reflecting & writing advice to my incoming sixth graders. How do you wind down the year in advisory? #mschat #edchat #mtbos #middleschool #advisory

My son was termed a “reluctant reader” in KINDERGARTEN and I watched him give up on school as his teacher said comics were getting in the way of literacy. Was given awful boring nonsensical Bob books instead. He WANTED to read comics, with built-in scaffolding, engagement, and confidence building literature. I went back to school to be a reading specialist and wrote my masters paper on using comics and pop culture to create deep and analytical readers and writers. I now give this professional development around the country so that no one else has to face an “educator” like my son did. Reading is reading. Comics = literature.

My son is now in high school. He LOVES to read because he went to the comics store with me every week. It was a special outing each Wednesday that was all about the love of literature. We always read together. Now - we still do the exact same thing. Comics = literacy.

@MrStalder We should have one in every room! I love love love that in EAL we don’t give grades. I tell them everything is for practice to help them improve and everything is ‘assessed’ by me but nothing is ‘graded’. They don’t mind taking risks and they appreciate the feedback much more.

Just posted this in my classroom. Every time a student asks the question, they get a ready-made answer. 😆

Yay, new books! 📚 I make it a point to not *only* have books for my EAL students in my class library. Any student can find a book to read in my room-helps eliminate stigma around language learning and ‘the EAL classroom’. All students come to read or work in my room. #mll #ell
