It got to 30+ pages before we stopped taking responses, but I’m sure there are many more. To the #highered world: we have work to do. It’s not enough to get #firstgen folks to the door. We must be dedicated to creating an experience that eliminates these common barriers/traumas.

We asked the 350 #firstgen #lowincome students @Princeton’s @Team1vyG conference to share the challenges they face. The answers are unsurprising & devastating. I thank the students for being vulnerable & allowing us space to process/reflect. This is 3 of 30+ pages of responses.

Today I had two firsts: (1) I gave my first keynote & (2) I cried for the first time while giving a keynote. There is much to process, but I am so thankful to this year’s 1vyG coordinators for inviting Viet & me back. 5 years later & I’m still in awe of this #firstgen movement!
