Trades like these absolutely blow my mind, especially when I randomly stumble upon traders I follow being involved 👀 How do you even describe this? Is it pure skill or just crazy luck?

I definitely agree that a bad reference price will infuence people and make them list at the wrong price. But my point is quite simple: if this reference price was really that low, people would buy them up. The fact that people aren’t buying them up shows that this price is not too cheap. Whether thats because of balance sale rates, inefficient arbitrage, or whatever, that is why the price gap between markets can exist. There are differences in prices between markets because of these inefficiencies transferring funds between. I can definitely agree with you on your point, though, that the Appraiser should not exist as it doesn’t really serve a purpose over listing prices, at least not for liquids.

you’re missing the point of what i’m saying. For the average float user there is information asymmetry, they don’t care about and don’t check eastern markets, they only care about the listing price and reference price. Eastern markets are more liquid and the market is driven by them, like it or not. Price moves first there. When you have a reference price like float has, that updates slowly, it misses market movement in either direction. Listings continue to clump around the reference price because of the aforementioned information asymmetry. We saw this before during dumps (where float was 10-15% more than youpin) and now during pumps, where youpin is more expensive. Your argument that ‘if the listings were so cheap people would buy them’ doesn’t work because of who the users that bridge the gap between western and eastern markets places actually are, they’re all resellers. When a large gap like this appears, the demand for balance falls (you see buyers atm paying 96%) pretty much closing the whole gap and making it an inefficient use of capital. Western users just see the price as normal as that’s the reference price, so instead of the gap being closed it just endures until the reference price updates. Imagine you are a normal user on csfloat, the reference price is the same as now but the listing price is the same as youpin. You see all butterfly gammas listed at +7% over the ‘recommended’ price and you think ‘oh maybe i should wait to buy one they’re all overpriced’. And the demand for items on the western market falls because everything is seen as overpriced (this is your emotion driven purchasing that you said is low atm). Suppose for a second we have that scenario again but the reference price is the same as youpin. You go to look for butterfly gammas and they seem competitively priced so you buy one, the actual price here is somewhat irrelevant for demand as it’s only a 5-7% difference in actuality. My point and gripe with the reference price is that it’s self perpetuating. The reference price isn’t 1850$ because the item is worth 1850$, the item is 1850$ because the reference price is 1850$. If the reference price suddenly increased to the eastern price then i bet the listing and sales prices would reasonably quickly rise to that level too. Resellers will always profit in either of these scenarios as they can take advantage of the arbitrage that arises in either direction, but normal users lose out, sellers currently get less than they could on other liquid marketplaces, and in the opposite scenario they overpay. For smaller marketplaces a reference price is useful as long as it’s calculated responsibly, but as the largest western marketplace float is already pretty liquid. I’m not arguing that they should peg the reference price to another market place, i’m saying they should remove it completely and just have people listing based on the other lowest listing, instead of some stupid slider where you select a % of the reference price, as for uninformed users they just list at the reference price and perpetuate it further.

If the knife were actually worth 10% more, people would be buying the "underpriced" listings. If the issue were just the Appraiser, we'd see a bunch of cheap sales. Listings themselves should still be priced similarly to Buff. IMO, the gap exists because Western buyers are currently less willing to buy skins than Eastern buyers. It's simply two different markets with limited arbitrage between them. Butterfly Gammas are simply worth $1,850, are listed for that much, and are consistently selling for that much. The Appraiser is doing exactly what it should, and I don't think it's broken. Could it be more accurate? Sure... I could have missed something, so if I'm wrong about anything, please let me know.

@Perhaps7Yousef Cheaper then crafting it and didnt have to create a duplicate. If someone REALLY wants this exact craft, it makes sense to pay 95% sp, sometimes even worth going over 100% if its a special 1/1 craft (not saying it is for this, just in general)
