BYU can’t play on Sundays (dumb) so they have to play in the Thursday/Saturday slot. Bama gets 3 days of rest rather than the 5 some of the Friday/Sunday teams will get. The days were predetermined for the East Region, but this played a part in BYU’s seeding.

Playing an in state school in football is a losing proposition. Win and no one cares because uab is basically a juco squad, play a close game or lose and you lose face in recruiting/rankings.
Would make sense if bama had issues selling tickets, but that's not a problem.

On March 18th in 1993, the UAB Blazers defeated Alabama at Coleman Coliseum in their first and only meeting. 🗓️ Why doesn’t Alabama play in-state teams in basketball and football? Very strange.
