Open Letter to Elon Musk Date: 19 April 2026 Mr. @elonmusk Founder & CEO, SpaceX & Starlink Dear Mr. Musk, Subject: Request to Review Starlink Pricing for Greater Accessibility in Rural Nigeria. I am writing this open letter as a passionate advocate for digital inclusion and education in rural Africa. My name is Amb. Ponfa Miri (Prince), Project Lead of @LangtangIHub in Langtang, Plateau State, Nigeria. We run a fully rural innovation hub that provides completely free training to rural kids, youth, and women, preparing them for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Our programmes cover AI literacy, coding, graphic design, digital marketing, virtual assistance, and digital entrepreneurship. Our core mission is to democratize technology and innovation access so that rural communities are not left behind in the digital age. We also have a pending flagship project: establishing Free Internet Zones across rural communities to directly bridge the digital divide. These zones would serve as community learning and opportunity centres giving hundreds of young people and women reliable connectivity to learn, create, and earn in the global digital economy. @Starlink has brought tremendous hope to remote areas like ours, where traditional broadband is almost non-existent. However, the current pricing remains a major obstacle for rural families, community projects, and social-impact initiatives. As of 2026, the Starlink hardware kit costs approximately ₦590,000 to ₦669,000, with residential monthly subscriptions starting from ₦57,000 (and higher for other plans). For the average rural Nigerian household and non-profit hubs operating with limited resources, these costs make adoption extremely difficult. Without affordable, reliable internet, our free 4IR training programmes face serious limitations, and our vision for Free Internet Zones cannot scale as intended. Rural children and women who are eager to learn and compete globally are held back simply because of connectivity costs. Mr. Musk, I respectfully and urgently appeal to you and the Starlink team to review and introduce tailored solutions for rural Nigeria. Specifically, we request consideration for: Subsidized or discounted hardware kits for rural innovation hubs, schools, and community centres Special lower-tier rural or social-impact monthly plans Flexible payment models, leasing options, or non-profit pricing Partnerships with local innovation hubs and digital inclusion projects Such measures would align perfectly with Starlink’s noble mission of connecting the unconnected and would unlock massive potential in education, skills development, agriculture, and entrepreneurship across rural Africa. We are ready and eager to partner with Starlink, whether by piloting these solutions at Langtang Innovation Hub or helping scale them nationwide. Mr. Musk, your vision has already changed the world. Making Starlink truly affordable for rural communities in Nigeria would help us democratize technology access and prepare the next generation for a brighter, more inclusive future. We look forward to your kind consideration. Thank you for your time and extraordinary leadership. Sincerely, Amb.
