Nobody said LeBron was checking prime Shaq for 48 minutes. The point is that LeBron could credibly switch onto guards, wings, forwards, and bigs in ways very few players in NBA history could. One guy having a good game against him doesn’t change that. By that logic Kobe couldn’t guard elite guards because guys like Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady cooked him plenty of times too. Peak Miami LeBron was defending MVPs, point guards, wings, power forwards, protecting the rim, and quarterbacking elite defenses. That’s why coaches and executives constantly talked about his ability to guard 1 through 5. Nobody was saying that about Kobe.

Using All Defensive Team selections as proof Kobe was a better defender than LeBron ignores context. They competed for different positions. LeBron could guard all five spots, switch onto anyone, and impact a defense in ways few players ever have. His defensive peak was higher.

These stats come out to roughly similar, especially the scoring when adjusting for era and pace.
On top of that with proper context, LeBron never had top tier teammates to create for him. He was the creator.

Soooo I would like an apology from every Laker fan that attacked me the last 2 months….
