@Vishwas1228 Have seen this in Mahabaleshwar too. They hand a card and say scratch this. You scratch and see that you have won a phone or a holiday. Then they tell you to visit a place/office/hotel to claim the reward. Offer often sounds too goo to be true - that should be your red flag.

This happened to me in Mumbai. One evening, while entering a shopping mall with my family, we were handed 2-3 coupons at the entrance. I passed them to my wife without thinking much. The coupons had some numbers printed on them. A few days later, I received a call informing me that one of our coupons had won special gifts. We were thrilled and quite excited. The caller asked us to visit their office near Vashi to collect the prizes. When we reached the address, it was a high-rise building. As soon as we entered the office, we were warmly welcomed with tea, coffee, and snacks. Several well-dressed executives in suits were busy explaining schemes to other visitors who had also come with “winning” coupons. Seeing so many people there made us feel it was a genuine company. After some time, the real pitch began. They presented highly attractive tour packages — free stays in luxury suites, multiple domestic trips, and even one international holiday — all at unbelievably low prices. Their team delivered long, emotional, and motivational speeches that made the offer sound too good to miss. Under pressure, I paid the amount on the spot to book the package. For the next 3-4 days, I tried calling them repeatedly to get more details, but all their numbers were switched off. No one responded. That’s when I realised I had been scammed. Sadly, the same kind of scams are now happening in Goa. Touts are distributing similar “lucky coupons” on roads and beaches, trapping tourists with the promise of cheap holidays and luxury stays. Tourism in Goa is under serious threat because of such harassment and fraud by touts. This growing menace is damaging the state’s reputation and putting at risk the livelihood of thousands of locals who depend on honest tourism. The government must take immediate and strict action to stop these scams, restore trust among visitors, protect tourists, and revive Goa’s image as a safe and welcoming destination.
