@Nicoledso @TorstenBell What makes you think I won’t do both? I’m investing aggressively into a ETFs and my pension, I want to be able to support my kids and leave them something. You say ‘tax breaks’ as if this is something new. Pensions have always been expect, until 2028 or whatever.

@TerminallyChimp @TorstenBell If you want to give money to your kids gift it to them when they actually really need it. Which isn’t in their 60s help them buy a home in their 30s before you die. But you want the tax break as well. Obviously

Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

Millions more people face having to work until they are 68 before being able to claim their pension under plans to bring forward a rise in the state retirement age, @oliver_wright reports The state pension age is due to gradually rise to 68 between April 2044 and April 2046. It will reach 68 for those born on or after April 6, 1978 However, Treasury officials have told the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), the government’s fiscal forecaster, that the “current policy” is to bring the increase in the retirement age forward by at least seven years, to 2037 This would mean that about five million people who are aged between 49 and 55 at present would have to work for an additional year before being eligible for their state pension, costing them about £12,500 The decision would save the government about £6 billion a year from 2037 compared with the present timetable Last year ministers launched a review of the state pension age led by the Government Actuary’s Department and Suzy Morrissey, deputy director of the Pensions Policy Institute. It is due to make recommendations on when the pension age should rise before the government legislates for any change. Ministers have insisted no final decision has been taken However, in a response to the OBR, the Treasury said the government’s intention was to bring forward the pension age rise towards the end of the next decade The OBR said: “We assume that the state pension rises to 68 in 2037-39. The Treasury has confirmed to us that this is the government’s current policy position, rather than the legislated increase set in the Pensions Act 2007.” thetimes.com/article/b74703…

@JayVtid “You know what I’m not particularly excited about this move, but I’m being paid £200k a week for 5 years and that’s why I’m here. I prefer my previous club but I’ll put up with this for a few years for the money”. Said no player, ever.

On Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne. Both incredible club servants, helping both on and off the pitch, with excellent (natural) communication skills and leadership. They arrived to shape the 2nd chapter of NSWE ambitious project. They wrote a sublime page of Villa’s history #avfc

@avfcbreaking Neither would I in his position. 5 year contract £200k a week. I’d whisper sweet, sweet nothings about the heritage, the project, the manager being elite, the squad being challengers, the city being beautiful the tea lady being gorgeous. Whatever they wanted me to say.

@stone3Clare @TorstenBell Agree. Include an uplift in pension credit for the disabled and those as registered carers for more than 5 years. The triple lock needs to go and people need to see the point in investing in their workplace or own private pensions.

@TerminallyChimp @TorstenBell But then that would leave people that aren’t able to work, such as severely disabled people and unpaid carers , even worse off

Retirement – ordinary people being able to enjoy years of leisure after a lifetime of work – is in the premier league of 20th century achievements. We’ve just set out the biggest pension reforms in a generation to safeguard it for workers in the 21st. Here’s what they’ll do.

@BookofAEGIS Jacob Tanswell isn’t in the business of making things up, he’s said it’s our most lucrative in our history with ‘add ins’ or similar wording. He wouldn’t say that without triple sourcing. I suspect, again, that you’re right.

I'd suspect that the reason the Villa (#avfc) deal with Visit Rwanda is being lauded as "the most lucrative in the clubs history" is because it more than likely doesn't just cover front of shirt, and covers full matchday commercial rights as well, and if that's the case? Its a good chance it's a guaranteed £30-35m+ Per Season + Bonuses at which point it would be extremely lucrative.

@dan_villafan I implore those against this deal to have a look at visiting Uganda, it looks gorgeous and there is nothing wrong in them promoting their tourist industry. I’ve been to Kenya and loved it, I’d go to Uganda too.

@BookofAEGIS He’s a plodder and I don’t rate him on the ball at all, he could cover Kamara perhaps. But he’d be another expensive short term solution.

João Palhinha cops a lot flak and tbh some of it is largely justified but one thing he adds and does well is play the enforcer, he's got that nasty streak, grab a game by the bollocks energy and I asked myself, who does Villa (#avfc) that does that? Nobody. He'd be a very astute loan.

@Alex_Berwick I think Emery and the club would have been more relaxed about Digne than Tielemans. Either way no need to dispair.

Due to release clauses sure. But we can’t renegotiate to remove the clauses (or we’d have renewed Youri a year ago), and we can’t offer £200k a week until players are in their mid 30’s. We just can’t. I don’t believe #avfc wanted them to go for one second.

Some thoughts on a sad day…. Last summer, Villa didn’t sell and ended up scratting around at the end of the window seeing who they could shove through the door at the last minute. The situation we are in means we *can never* be proactive in the market. Always reactive. #avfc

@BookofAEGIS You simply can’t replace a player like Tielemans, if it were so easy United would have bought them already. You evolve, as you say. Each player has their own strengths and weaknesses, you adapt to these. That’s what Emery has always done and will do again.

I've seen this post going around and "How do we replace that?" (#avfc) Tielemans topped the EPL last season with 18.3 defensive lines broken per 100 passes. Pure class. But at 29, clubs need to start thinking about the next level. Enter Manzambi... The 20yr old Swiss box-to-box monster from Freiburg is dynamic, athletic and relentless. He eats up ground, wins duels, drives the ball forward consistently in carries & passes with real intent. While Tielemans dictates play with his passing, Manzambi bursts through lines, carries the ball at pace and sparks counters. His age, stamina and very high ceiling make him the ideal long-term replacement for Youri and not Onana as so many mention. Villa aren't signing a midfielder, they're signing the new driving force in their engine room for years to come. Debate ended.
