@petrichorror @Dag_Zaggles @blounz Many, many people use this exact product and others like it to pass drug screens every day. It’s formulated to almost be identical to real urine, except for a few genetic markers that regular screens aren’t looking for. You have no experience here, and that’s understandable.

@Funk_fu749 @nestapendragon A 40 turn clock that changes into a 20 turn clock next turn, and so on. Usually played in decks like Valgavoth where they represent value. Kaito’s emblem represents a difficult to remember and track part of a very interactive part of the board, and is still excellent value.

@Funk_fu749 @nestapendragon Are you living in 2015 when emblems were only from ults? There’s a Kaito that upticks to make an anthem emblem for ninjas. There’s a Chandra that upticks to make an emblem that burns everyone for 1 damage in the upkeep. Etc.

@nestapendragon I think if a table actually allows a planeswalker to ultimate then they don't deserve to be able to remove it. That's like saying you need a specific answer for 5 card combos.

@ourmartyredlady Alcohol & THC are more addictive but still, mostly because they’re actually obviously enjoyable during use. It’s easy to use because it’s fun. The only time a drug I’ve tried has genuinely resulted in true hard temptation was trying Oxycodone. It’s dangerously euphoric.

@ourmartyredlady Absolutely not. Nicotine is a mediocre drug, all things considered. My first real adult cigarette was enjoyable enough, and I did get a noticeable nicotine high. But not enjoyable enough for me to smoke regularly. I’ll smoke a cigarette if I’m given it for free, and I’m drunk.

@Xiaomimi5210866 @Eisenkocher @AdamBasis It doesn’t matter what you think it should be, you can’t change reality. It’s not just about latency. It’s about the resources required to show things like an app index, or even just render visuals, and the power efficiency of doing so. This will always be more efficient.

@Terraphice @Eisenkocher @AdamBasis In the 90s we had Quake on software mode (100% CPU ) rendering 30fps of 640x480 3D graphics, music, sound, networking, etc... We have orders of magnitude more CPU power now and full GPU acceleration, rendering a sliding window with some text should be instant. That's the point.

Yes, because my cpu, up to 67,200,000,000 boosted core-cycles per second, with 12 cores, 24 threads, 134,400,000,000 logical thread-clock slots per second, 2,150,400,000,000 theoretical FP32 FMA operations per second, 80,478,208 bytes of cache is clearly not enough. It must run at 210% overclocked to do the ginormous task of showing a rounded rectangle. It's not just any rectangle mind you, it's a WHITE rectangle.
Windows Latest@WindowsLatest

Microsoft VP fires back at Windows 11's new speed trick critics: "Apple does this and you love it." Windows 11’s hidden Low Latency Profile is getting dragged online, but the criticism misses the point. Windows Latest has tested the Low Latency Profile, and it truly works. When you open the Start menu, a menu, or an app, Windows briefly boosts the CPU for 1–3 seconds so the task finishes faster. On budget PCs, that can make the whole OS feel much snappier. Some users called it a “band-aid,” but Microsoft's Scott Hanselman pushed back and explained that macOS and Linux already do similar things. Modern systems boost CPU speed for interactive tasks because responsiveness matters. "Let Windows cook," Microsoft's legendary dev Scott Hanselman argues in defense of Windows 11's upcoming feature. Of course, Windows 11 needs to be optimized at the code level, but the answer is not “don’t boost the CPU.” Microsoft needs to do the best of both worlds. That means it needs to optimize the code, reduce bloat, and use modern scheduling tricks to make Windows feel fast again.

@GCNDiscs_ @Yay_Yow @peach2k2 No, it shouldn’t. You just don’t fundamentally understand what this is and why it’s beneficial. It is generally more power and resource efficient to run the CPU at a high clock speed than to wait longer at a lower clock speed for the same task. This is only a good thing!

@Eisenkocher @AdamBasis The floor is much lower than you believe. Do you also think most DMs on Linux have “slop” menus? Because this optimization has been a part of the Linux kernel for a while now, and hasn’t ever been complained about. You’re trying to bandwagon against MS for the sake of it.

Eisenkocher@Eisenkocher·
@Terraphice @AdamBasis Except that this is only true above a certain floor. There is a reason the CPU only boosts after a short delay: Because there are plenty of tasks that are so low compute that they do not profit from race to idle. The start menu used one of these tasks. Instead it got slopified.

@_CerealSauce @peach2k2 You have no understanding of what the CPU architecture is designed for. Low power draw over a longer period of time is generally less efficient than a short burst of power for a shorter task time. This is called a race to call power plan. You have no idea what you’re saying.

@Terraphice @peach2k2 Why are u so aggressive. I never said it's not boosting I just said it's not even going above 1ghz. Everyone fucking knows any OS worth a damn is gonna dynamically boost the CPU under load, what I'm highlighting is even on a "bloated" desktop the effect isn't as noticeable.

@Eisenkocher @AdamBasis This is an entirely separate optimization than the time it takes to open any menu. This optimization is also a part of the Linux kernel for that exact reason. It doesn’t matter how well optimized the task is, this is still an improvement.

@Eisenkocher @AdamBasis Listen, and you may want to pay attention this time: The CPU is generally more power efficient, and draws less energy, when you make the call to boost the CPU before a task. This is called a race to call power plan. The task can be extremely short/optimized and still benefits.

@AdamBasis It doesn’t have to be. They’re doing it because it will be more efficient. It will always be more efficient, no matter what it’s doing, to call the CPU to boost before almost ANY task. This is how the modern CPU architecture is designed to be used. You’re a fool.

@AdamBasis This same feature exists on all major operating systems, and is totally separate from any sort of performance issues you’re relating it with. This feature should exist on Windows, and if anything it’s surprising that it didn’t already. This is more power efficient and faster!

@AdamBasis I know you’re being disingenuous for the sake of engagement, but someone has got to call you a fool for this take. It’s generally more efficient to run tasks at a higher clock speed for a shorter time, than do tasks more slowly. It has nothing to do with task CPU inefficiency.

@gxanshu @peach2k2 This same technique is a part of the Linux kernel, and is also on MacOS. You don’t have the knowledge to understand that this is normal and not at all a bad thing, which means you’re not even remotely the kind of person who should be using Linux in the first place.

@_CerealSauce @peach2k2 This exact same feature is a part of the Linux kernel. You’re a poser, and don’t understand what this means. This is a clock boost. It’s an intentional use of the CPU, and it happens almost constantly under use. It’s the objectively correct design.

@opgjdspogjdspih You’re an idiot. Actually, almost everyone here is. The OP is an engagement farmer. But I’ll bite. This is inherently good design, and is done by every single major operating system. Regardless of optimization, it’s objectively correct to clock boost before a task like this.
